In chronic blood loss, there is deficiency of Iron as well. This will decrease the MCV and MCH and causes microcytic, hypochromic anemia.

thanks guys
blood loss does lead to iron deficiency anemia ..... but what i was confused with was the fact that thalassemia also leads to the same picture..... and its a genetic abnormality.....so why do we chosse blood loss as the answer

I know that everybody gets confused in the exams coz' they think too much and finally get it wrong. It happens with me all the time.
But back to your question, when you have the simplest answer in the options, why are u trying to complicate things by choosing a vague answer (genetic abnormality). It is true that Thalassemia major causes microcytic and hypochromic RBC but do all genetic abnormalities cause that.?
Iron deficiency is the most common cause anyway.

i guess i need to relax a bit....... sometimes i tend to think too much and confuse myself
thanks for the help
