microscopes and nausea

i love pathology, but i always get nauseous looking through the microscope. how much microscopy is used typically?

i cant be the only one; how do others deal with this? does it eventually go away?

I don't have much personal experience with this issue, has never happened to me (although neither has seasickness or airsickness or any type of motion-induced autonomic perturbations). I wonder if solutions to those problems work well for the microscope issue.

sorry, this is totally random, but the first time i read your username i thought it was "psychotard."

anyway, i've gotten dizzy once or twice, but it's much better when you're the one in control of the scope stage. and after you familiarize yourself with the knobs, you expect which way your visual field is going to move.
ie--you get used to it....imho.

Hours and hours each day. Unless you do something like blood banking or clinical chemistry through a pure clinical pathology residency.

i get really dizzy for a week after i look into microscopes following a period of absence (months).

After this first week it goes away and you're fine. It's like getting used to a new pair of glasses or contacts. don't let it deter you from the field.

I've heard it gets better with time. Usually only happens to me when someone else is driving the scope and they're moving very quickly / erratically... when it starts to happen I generally close my eyes or look down (out of the scope) until the person has found whatever they're hunting. That helps minimize / alleviate the problem.

Most things don't make me motion sick, either.
