I am midway into the application cycle right now and am wondering whether I should wait until the next as I feel that I am too far behind. I submitted my AMCAS in early July but it did not process for over a month. I started to receive secondaries back in mid August, around the time people start first getting interviews. At this point, I haven't submitted any secondaries because of an ongoing family crisis that has delayed me.

So I'm wondering if I should just reapply next cycle, as I am positioned to apply very early (PS all done, letters already written, some secondary essays completed). I have good experiences lined up for this year (study coordinator in a lab, going to be working in a clinic in India for a few months this winter).

What are your thoughts? One question I have is, if I have not submitted any secondaries, does it count as having "applied" to a school yet? Will having sent my AMCAS to a school but not having sent a secondary, even if I did not send it to any school, be a mark against me? Thanks for any opinions or advice you may have.

You already made an investment, continue to submit your secondaries. Don't get discouraged by SDN neuroticism. There is a reason secondary deadlines aren't till November and December...

Yes, you will be considered a reapplicant at most, if not all, schools if you choose to reapply.

I say continue to apply. You already got this far and put most of the work in. Ditto what poster above said...ignore SDN deadlines.

Plus keep in mind that some people haven't gotten all their LORs yet so even if they've submitted their secondaries they aren't complete yet either.

I've talked to a couple of AdCom members & interviewers and they have emphasized to me that it is still very very early in the cycle. Don't let all the SDN posts fool you-- plenty of people apply much later than you have/will. Write and submit those secondaries!
