Midwest Programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I didn't interview in Kentucky, so I can't comment on the programs there. However, I did extensively interview in both Ohio and Michigan.

The only solid programs of any consequence in both states are the University of Michigan, Ohio State, and the Case Western Reserve program at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

Unfortunately, a lot of the other programs in the area have major flaws. One poster in one of the other threads here hit it right on the nail regarding the Cincinnati program. The Cleveland Clinic program offers average, at best, basic training in anesthesiology; it's where you want to go if you want to do a fellowship. Both Detroit programs had faculty and resident issues. Toledo had hospital problems and Metrohealth suffers from a likely undeserved, but notorious reputation.

During the Cleveland CLinic anesthesia interviews they told us more about their cardiac surgery program and how great it is and LESS about the anesthesia residency program!
i was like,,whats going on
the PD was a total weirdo who saw each applicant for 25 seconds a piece and didnt say anything except stare at ur face
a real weird character
the residents work like slaves there
