I am proud of joining NAVY. It wasn't out of financial needs but serving those who protect the best country in the world is an honor to me. now go ahead and talk smack about the military and all the other things, it will never change my mind. I will stay in NAVY and I will retire from NAVY. maybe if some of you guys had lived outside USA, you would understand how lucky we are to be here.
as for waitlisted2009 who mentioned Midwestern accepts low stats people because of military, I'm a prime example of how that is not true. I have a DAT of around 20 or 21, not that great of a GPA and has been waitlisted at MWU. It's my second time applying to MWU and know that this school will rock the world of dentistry once their graduates start practicing. look at their curriculum.

as for presentation by Dr.Simonsen, I liked it not because he is the dean but because the presentation had substance to it.

I loved his presentation because my father was in the Navy for 22 years. I used to be into fighter jets when I was about 12, and it was a dream of mine to become a fighter pilot. Obviously, I took a different route in life though, but I still love to watch fighter jets, especially landing on a moving ship in the dark. I have the greatest respect for Dean Simonsen's son and all in the military for that matter.

I have been deployed to Iraq and been with the Army since I got out of high school. Because of my DAT, I'm an alternate at MW. Just because you're military doesn't mean you're in. I feel the same as broken. The presentation at the interview showed some patriotism. I've been in 10 different countries and in 4 continents in the last few years. Believe me, we have it good here. Have a good look at this pic and try to tell me that you had it worse off.

Waitlisted2009 trying to erase all of his old posts won't stop OracleDMD from trying to erase black people, like Waitlisted, from Midwestern... And the white just get whiter...

and the sarcasm continues! arizona is making me less white....literally... i got a wicked farmers tan workin!

I have a feeling these threads will be shut down...

to those in the military:
this thread isn't bashing the navy or air force or army. this thread is discussing one particular poster and his comments/behavior in the past, linked to current comments/behavior.

re: this entire debacle.
i think the school does have a right to know what sort of people they are letting in. thousands upon thousands of people apply to dental schools every year and waitlisted is taking a spot that could be occupied that someone that will be a good dentist and care about other people instead of just being a douche. oracle, i do think that telling the school what's going on is a difficult position to be in, but i also think it is an important one. if i were running a school, i would want to know.

positive traits like integrity, honesty and attitude are very important to me personally and i think they should be vital to anyone going into a healthcare field. we will be/are responsible for the well-being of others and if a person is selfish or just plain rude/idiotic/ridiculous/judgmental/whatever then that's not what we need in a healthcare provider.

So there's tan whites and pale whites at Midwestern?? I didn't realize it was that diverse!

No, these 2 people give me a good start NOT to apply to Midwestern since the faculty there seem CLUELESS in judging people's character. So i think the faculty should do something different this year to test if their future dental students are idiots or not.

Can you believe these 2 types of people are gonna be our dentist? Schools should have something to do with it

You're right, trying to judge character throughout the admissions process is a serious difficulty. Obviously there are bad apples that slip through EVERY class of EVERY dental school. But please don't insult our faculty by saying that they are clueless though. Our inaugural class was hand-picked with careful consideration, and after spending a year with these individuals I can vouch for the character of our class as a whole.

Seems like a potential business opportunity for you: figure out the magical solution of how to pick a full class of perfect individuals and sell your services to all graduate schools. Then you won't have to worry about getting into dental school anymore.

Things like this are noted by our Dean. I hope both you were not planning to specialize, since a letter of rec from the Dean will probably be hard to get, after what both of you said on a public forum that represents your character (ie: 2nd worst dental school, can one sleep with classmates?") .

I see it as a tragedy that both of you have to be tainted with this image even before the 1st day of school.

I would say if you have get another acceptance at another school, consider going there.

Unlike other schools where the students sees the Dean every so often, we see the Dean almost on a regular basis, usually every other day, or sometimes everyday of the week. He knows each and everyone of us,not just by name, but our backgrounds, where we're from, our personalities, what we like/dislike, etc. We have a very close relationship with the Dean as demonstrated by OracleDMD.

Starting off this way with the Dean is not the best way to start, especially at MWU.

I wish you only the best if you still choose to come to MWU. Just know you will have to work extra harder than others to get this off you.

Too bad for them, from their previous post, i think MW is the only school that they get into.

And good luck with the self-righteous crusade Oracle. I still don't see the whole situation to be a big deal, but whatever. To each his own.

really? is it my "self righteous" crusade? is it my crusade at all? go back and count up how many students having been posting in favor of students like this getting staightened out. self righteous is getting into dental school and being so impressed with yourself that you feel the right to put yourself, your colleagues, and your school on blast.

i am here to genuinely help people. however yesterday shows that we CARE at MWU, and if you wanna go down that road.....then BOOM goes the dyamite.

I'm rather disturbed at the direction this thread has taken. My view is that no matter how big of a douchebag someone is on an internet message board, you don't go messing with their acceptance.

WL said some ignorant things and supported the whole theory of internet jerkwads (i.e. give a man anonymity + huge audience = instant internet jerkwad), this board is not a court of law or an ethics committee. Things said on here are often said out of frustration, stress, jealousy, envy, anger, or any other slew of negative emotions. "Tattling" to the dean is taking things too far. If the administration sees the posts, puts 2 and 2 together and decides to do something, that is their prerogative. It is not yet the place of anyone else to be a whistle-blower. No ethical misbehavior has occured, no laws have been broken. There's nothing in the ADA code of ethics that says you can't be an ignorant jerk to people other than your patients.

Now, this isn't to say that some sort of backlash from your classmates won't or shouldn't happen, but I'm very much against the idea of witch hunts or targeting another person, especially one you will be meeting for the first time. Constantly bringing up the OP's race doesn't make this look any less of a witch hunt, either. It smacks of racism and just overall intolerance.

My recommendation is that WL and possibly hersheylove send the dean an email disclosing their statements along with an apology. Normally I don't think this would be necessary, but since someone blew the whistle, you might as well own up to it and be a man (or woman, as the case may be). I think this will go a long way in showing your character and maturity and may help the issue fizzle out. An apology to your future classmates might be a good idea as well.

Either way, I think it was inappropriate to notify the dean and endanger someone's acceptance for words on a message board. Now that it is done, however, damage control is the best option.

I'm going to discuss this with the higher ups here and see if some serious action needs to be taken against someone who jeopardizes someone's seat in a class.

there are too many more qualified, better people on the th waitlist not to say something. i had originally decided not to, but facebook messages, and PM's from classmates combined w/ new posts forced the issue. i don't know what you consider ethical, but slamming our school, our students, and countless others doesn't go over well here. call it what you want, but i'd rather have a genuine good person get in off the waitlist if there is a concern about character.

who is talking about the guys race? only to identify, not for anything else. it's not a witch hunt. intolerence? haha laughable! yes...we here at MWU are intolerant....intolerant of people that show low character, intolerant of students who disrespect their colleagues, intolerant of unprofessionalism. yes we are intolerant then.

these forums are for helping people out, getting some good scoop on schools and dentistry, and talking about realated subjects. can people come out and vent frustrations? heck yeah! but this was no case of "ooooh i was just venting". this was several months disrespect and ignorance and sometimes you should have to answer for things you post. i don't post anything on here i wouldn't say with another dentist or dean in the room. why? because if you wouldn't say with someone else around, you probly shouldn't be saying it!

talk to whoever you want to about it! hell, you know who i am and where you can find me so do your worst. i stand behind everything i've said past, present, and future. who jeopardized who's seat in the class? every man is reponsible for himself, that includes what he says, does, types, posts, whatever.

at MWU we, the students ARE the school. we don't need to wait around for admissions committees or faculty or administrators to straighten out students, or weed out jerks, because we do it ourselves. we are a 4 year ethics program and if you want to go here you better be down with that idea.

I believe as long as Hersheyslove and WL do not get their acceptance revoked, then it was fine for OracleDMD to tell the Dean. This will make them change their character in the future, but in no way should it ruin their future for something they said on an internet forum where identity is suppose to be anonymous. Obviously these two were good students because they got into dental school. If the penalty was an apology to the students and faculty, I think that is a great punishment because it will change them for the better, but not ruin their future.

Additionally, a place where you can voice your opinion anonymously is necessary because some people do not say certain things because they are afraid of repercussions. Anonomity allows people to voice the truth about certain topics. On the other hand, it can allow people to say things they won't be held accountable for. Anyways it has its positives and negatives.

Furthermore, what you did, OracleDMD, was somewhat of a gunner mentality. You put 2 other students down and made yourself look like a person that upholds the integrity and character of the students who go to school to the dean. Basically, you sacrificed two people in order to make you look like the most honorable person to the dean.

However, your intentions could have been completely genuinue. If you told the Dean what Herseyslove and WL wrote anonymously, I would completely believe you did it for genuine intentions. Because it would help them change in the future for the better and you would have received no benefit.

Anyways, I can't accuse you of what your intentions really were because I have no evidence. These are just the things that came into my head after I read all the threads.

I just realize that you are more douchbag and jerk than Waitlist and hershlove. They are idiots but just imagine the next 4 years of their life that they have to endure because you go email and tell the dean. Plus, you united other Midwestern against these 2 poor students. Wow, it just make myself see the future of Midwestern indeed.

This is no different than if one of the deans buddies was at a bar and heard someone bashing the school. Would you object to that information being given to the dean?

Its no different. Its another way to get to know who someone is before they become a part of your school.

Right now over a hundred people who desperately want to go to dental school are waiting on a call from MWU. I think that makes it very fair to be nitpicky and use ANY information that you can. If nothing else it will make sure that this crummy attitude never makes it on campus.

You seem pretty big on ethics. In my opinion, it would have been far more ethical and definitely classier to do it in private instead of grandstanding in a public forum like you have been. It would bother me to go to a school where the students have bestowed upon themselves the duty to "weed out jerks". The definition of jerk can be subjective and I would hate to be on the wrong end of that witch hunt.

there's nothing gunner about it. i'm not specializing, i don't need help from the dean with anything. i had plenty of contact with waitlisted prior to yesterday, and our whole class is aware of what's been going on here over the last couple days and they are all about it. they won't get kicked out but they will answer for their actions. be a professional. it's not an option, or a suggestion. i don't have any desire to "make myself look good", my friends and colleagues, deans and faculty all know each other well enough not to worry about making an impression. the dean knows they were acting anonymously but being anonymous is not a remedy or excuse. there are people that are dying to get in that really want to go here and don't consider it one of the worst schools, and they are great people who are ready to accept the responsibility of the profession. those are my intentions, to make sure the students that come here are genuine and decent people, and if there is something that needs to be addressed then that's what has to happen. they don't need to be kicked out, but apparently their classmates weren't able to change their minds....so the dean will. done.

people can say what they want but remember that i am not alone. my friends agree, my future classmates agree (and requested this), and my dean agrees.

waitlisted and hershey aren't condemend for this, it was a mistake, and like all mistakes it won't define them in any way. but lesson learned when you get into dental school you will be held to a higher standard and if your classmates are trying to step in...listen to them.
