Midwestern University Class of 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I live in the area, and I can't for a moment figure out how I'd get around without a car. There are shopping areas near by, but the traffic is thick enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable walking. And though there is a bus system, I've never taken it, and a taxi around Oakbrook would cost you an arm and a leg to get anywhere. I'd recommend looking up bus routes to see how accessible they make things...

If you can afford to bring it, I'd say bring it for sure. If not, maybe there will be someone on campus you could get to know and borrow from?

thanks. i guess i'm gonna have to drive it from california

What a long drive! LOL fun in my opinion...but if it's that big of a hassle, get it shipped! It doesn't cost that much.

Should be a good road trip. Is there anything walking distance from the school? I didn't have a chance to look around after the interview.

I was thinking about driving all the way from so cali too, but I will be looking into shipping my car.

see you all in the fall.

There should be some restaurants within 2 or 3 miles, but off the top of my head I can't even remember if there are sikewalks...

Try google mapping the campus and then scrolling about at street level? This is a really well populated area so I'm guessing the pictures should be recent.

I'm also from SoCal, but I think I'll be shipping my car. It's way less expensive when you consider that it'll take about two days to get to Chicago, and that includes gas, staying over at a motel, food, and etc. Unless you want to drive 24 hours straight as google maps says is the amount of time to get from here to there...

Also, parking at Midwestern is free, so once there you don't have to worry about paying for a permit every year!

Does anybody know how to get a IL Pharm Tech license while in California? I just noticed in my acceptance letter I have to have one.

I think all the students need cars in order to get to their sites to do their IPPE during their first year. Some current students I talk to at CCP have to commute to sites 40 minutes away every week.

So do I mail the School the tech license when I receive it from the Illinois Pharm Department?

Another question is: Is anyone here waiting for acceptance at Glendale, Arizona?

I am not sure if the schools need a hard copy of the technician license. They can easily look up the status of your license online so technically they wouldn't need the hard copy.

I was waiting for my acceptance to CPG. I was torn between CPG and CCP, but I think I made the right decision choosing CCP. 👍

You don't like 3 years program + the weather?

I prefer Chicago winters over outrageous heat. Plus what am I gonna do with all my fly winter gear? lol

If i dont get into the Midwestern-Glendale, then I'll definetly (damn it how do you spell this) see you in Chicago this fall

I was waiting for CPG because I have a friend that's a P1 there this year, but CCP was my first choice. Heat + me = 🙁 Cold + me = 😀 hahaha CCP was my first choice, so I am on cloud 9 right now. I was on the wait list at CPG though.

I've been accepted to CCP and I'm hoping to live in the dorms. Just wondering if I will be needing my car.

We were told during our interview that you would absolutely need a car to get to your clinicals, including first year.

Just paid my deposit yesterday but not 100% sure i'll be going to mwu YET.

Anyway, I was looking the housing preferences and was wondering if most people are going to live on campus or off? It would be nice to live on campus but I like having my own kitchen and space so I'm still undecided...

Congrats Rocky987! The Pines Apartments are on campus and they're basically one bedroom apartments so you'll have your own space (although small) and your own kitchen! Hope this helps...

Has anyone seen the dorms yet? I'm schedule for an appointment to tour their residence options next Thursday. I hear they are nice. 😀

Same here...I can't really tell how the dorms are based on the pictures...Your input will mean a lot to all of us who may not be able to make it out there any time soon! Have fun 🙂

I've seen one of the dorm rooms during my interview. It's very small, but at least you don't have to share your room. They're shaped awkwardly because of the round chapel in the center of the building.

Just wondering if anyone had interview on Feb 03 received got accepted. I am still waiting for my result. They said it might take 3 weeks but I heard that if they like you, you got result after 2 weeks.....nervous!!!

Yea I interviewed on the 5th and I am so anxious....i dont think the interview went that well tho 🙁 but who knows, right

It's the end of the month, so I'm assuming acceptances will go out this week...

do they inform us about the acceptances via phone or by email, or do they update the portal? the wait is making me soo nervous 😱

I heard that they will update the MWU portal. So I will keep checking it to end of this week.

I found out I was accepted by checking my portal. I never got a phone call, but I did get a letter in the mail.

The most reliable way is through the portal, but I received a phone call before the portals changed. I have no idea why some people got calls and others didn't.

Most people that got accepted initially found out through the portal and snail mail. If the portal doesn't change when everyone finds out, its likely that you're on the waitlist and will receive a letter stating so. I was accepted off the waitlist first week of Feb. and I received a letter of acceptance via snail mail before the portal was updated about a week later.

do you know exactly how long does it take to know the result from the interview date?

I just called the office of admission and they said I was put on alternate list. What I could do is waiting for their final decision until one week before class. If anyone haven't received any info, make a call, then you know right away.

I got in, but declined my seat in hopes of getting into UIC. Some waitlisted student is about to be pleasantly surprised.

Abpham10,

How long ago did you have your interview? How long did it take for you to find out about being on the wait list? I interviewed last week and they said it would be 6 weeks before we would hear anything. Sound Right?

Whats the deal with computers? Are we supposed to bring our own or buy from them?

From what I got from the interview, they charge you a "technology fee" with the tuition and the computer comes from them. It's horrible because I know computers and I'm fairly confident they will give us a computer with inferior processing power. If I were getting one on my own, I would buy something that weighed 10 pounds and could do everything I wanted it to do.

I took interview on feb 03. I called them on feb24, 3 weeks after my interview. They said at the interview day that you will know the result within 4 weeks by mail.

They just liked you better =P

I found out while I was at work. Thank goodness I was working at my slow store, or else I would have never noticed my phone. There was much dancing and and jumping about in the pharmacy. I found out about 6 weeks later, that may have been because of winter break? I interviewed Dec 11 and found out in late January.

I interviewed on the 5th and was in floriday yesterday interviewing when my dad called me telling me I got into CCP. I can't be more happy. I'll be joining you all in the Fall!

Congrats! 😀

I just have one question though, where on thier website does it say you must be pharm tech certified? It will not be hard for me to get this certification, but in my letter it says I must send in a Illinois pharm tech license. I was unaware of this.

Go to that website on the letter and apply for the tech license. It is pretty simple as you just fill out the form and pay 40 bucks to obtain the license. No test required! Congrats again!
