Hey everyone, just curious to see if anyone's heard from MWU on interviews and if people have more information on the school than what's found on their website. I was invited for an interview there this past week. My interview date is on Sept. 17. I'm excited to view the campus and learn more about this new dental school.

I received an interview this week as well and am very interested to see what they have. The interview day is fairly long, starting at 7:45 and getting done at 2:30, especially when they haven't build their clinic yet, so i'm not sure what exactly we are going to tour. I agree that the website doesn't have much info, but I think we can safely assume that nearly everything will be brand new for the entering class and that would be very nice. I would be interested as well to hear if anyone has an extra information on the school. Anyone know how many people they are interviewing and how many seats they are going to have?

100 seat, the website has some good info but you really have to look hard for it. You can find a lot of info with their "interact now" link.

Thanks, I'll check that "interact now" function out. I found an article that said originally the planned for 200 dental chairs, but it has now been changed to 120, how many do most schools have? It also said they are building a 120,000 square-foot building that will house the dental school among other things. It really would be awesome to have new facilities and new equipment, I am very excited to interview there. My intervew date is september 5th, anyone else?

Unfortunately I don't have much more info for you... but I will also be there on the 17th. See you there!

Cool, I look forward to meeting you. I, too, am curious as to the number of applicants that they plan to actually interview. With 100 seats open (not necessarily split between in and out of state since it's a private school)...we can assume we're competing for all 100 seats instead of like 20 of 75 like UNLV as an out of stater.

I assume most schools interview between 300-500 students total. If that average holds true, JUST getting an interview means you'd have like a 1/3-1/5 chance.

Being that the interviews are fairly early....HOPEFULLY, we all interview well there! ;-)

I'm excited though to tour the school and learn as much about this new school as possible. I think that I'd be very interested in going to school there if accepted.

Any other MWU invites yet?

I got an invite last week. I scheduled it for October 3 but I feel like I'm the only person for this date! I'm really excited though!!!

A few questions for you interviewees:

How long was it from the time that your secondary app was complete (according to their website) until you were offered an interview?

How was the interview offered? By snail mail letter like their website says or was it an e-mail? I thought I saw somebody post on a different thread that they got their interview offer by e-mail.

I noticed that the SDN interview feedback still doesn't list MWU as an option to post feedback. I contacted SDN and they said it would be added as soon as the person who handles that type of change is back from vacation. Please watch for that change and post your interview feedback. We'd all like to hear how it went.

Congrats to all of you & good luck!

My secondary was complete as of July 17 (according to the MWU website)
and I was offered an interview on August 8/8/07...The interview was via email which gave a link to select a date online...

i have an interview on august 27 and i dont even know how to interview, im freaked out, what do they ask, how should i prepare, i dont think im a social ****** but it would be helpful to know what i should be preparing for, any ideas, thank you

be ready to prove to the interviewer that you are "one of them" (i.e. a dentist). Prepare a list (mental or actual) of things you have done that are significant in contributing toward your decision as well as those qualities that would make you a good dentist. Be prepared to give more than a single sentence answer. Back up your answers with concrete examples.

If you're really nervous, try to find a book about interviewing. If you can't find one specific to dentistry, then go for a med school interview book. The challenges are going to be very similar for both.

Hey, I can answer one of my own questions ..... my app was listed online as complete Aug 3rd and today, Aug 15th, I was invited (via an e-mail) for an interview! I'm scheduled for Oct 3rd, so I'll see you then wannabDMD. Anyone else for that date?😛

For all of you early interviewees, the SDN interview feedback is updated to include Midwestern now. It doesn't show up in the first drop-down menu because nobody's submitted any feedback yet. But, once you interview, you can click on "enter feedback" and it is available under that drop-down menu. Good luck to all and let us know how it goes as soon as you get back!

I just got a DVD from MWU in the mail. anyone else? It's supposed to showcase a day in the life of 3 students at Midwestern (of course none are dent students).

Yeah I got one also...Of course they wouldn't have any dent students...but IMO health science professionals curriculum's can very similar on the academic side of things. So I thought it was good. I was impressed, definitely.

Yeah I got it also, seems pretty cool.

I got the dvd a couple of days ago, it is kind of worthless. I have already visited their, not much to see, no dental clinic yet. This has been discussed on another thead.

I just read on the Midwestern website that tuition for the first entering class will be $57,000, that comes out to $231,000 for 4 years! I believe this will make it the most expensive dental school in the country. I am intervewing there in september and I would really like to go, but doesn't that seem like a ton of money for a first year school that could have some problems and that isn't even accredited yet?

do the people who get invites get the DVD or does everyone?

I think its just people who got interviews. Do you want my copy? I'll send it to you.

haha no thanks, hopefully i will get an interview.

Most expensive school is Tufts. Check out their website. Tuition is 60,000 a year. They anticipate with living expenses it will cost 80,000 a year. So it will be around 320,000 for all four years. OUCH!

mine is on 29th.
Does anyone have the interview on that day??

I fully plan on doing the HSPS scholarship through the military if ever accepted...so tuition costs become a lot less relevant to an applicant like myself.

Not only long, it is early too.
Is that why they send us the DVD?
They are all early-bird people.

My navy recruiter told me I will have $20,000 bouns this year if I get in any dental school.
That is a relief from the high tuition.

Is that the "Ship" bonus that he was talking about? The one where they give you a bonus to ship you off right away. There was an article just featured about this on msn.com

Well... I checked the quick-ship bonus news.
That is for Army.
When I had the phsicals, I did see those people were shipped out right after the phsicals.
I suppose that is the quick-ship bonus......

Besides, we are commission officers.
Where do you think they want to ship us to?

Even more for NYU, according to their website:

Year 1 - 81,000
Year 2 - 86,000
Year 3 - 86,000
Year 4 - 77,000

= 330,000

Oh yeah, plus USC is 90 grand your first year, and 88 grand your second and third year! It drops down to 59 grand your fourth year, thankfully, bringing the grand total to approx. 320,000.

i was just wondering how rejections are handed out? email, snail mail, etc...?

As an Arizona resident I had the opportunity to meet with the dean of the dental school about 6 months ago or so. Nice guy. A little hard to read but a nice guy none the less.

As for the number of seats. 100 seats sounds about right. 100 seats times 60,000 (cost of tuition per year) that is like 6,000,000 for the first year just in tuition revenue. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys...

For those who have interviewed already...do you guys have any feedback on how it went? I'm sure you guys did great...

Hi, Yeah it was pretty awesome.
I really liked the school (definitely my first choice). There's really nothing to worry about. The interview was pretty laid back... and at the risk of sounding almost geeky... kinda fun 😉 , Just read your secondary and AADSAS application... be genuine, confident, sincere, and at ease. Take care, you people will do fine 😎

It was better than I expected.
The interview was finished before lunch time.
It gave you better appetite.
Almost every dental school gives you an essay topic to write about; therefore, prepare for your spelling tools if you need it.
Overall, they are nice people. Very advance equipments they are going to use in this school.
No wonder the tuition is high; You got what you pay. It is worthy.

You can pick your favor topic you like. How nice it is... right?
You can make your essay long or short but you need to turn it in by lunch theoretically....
Hotel... uhm... I am a stray dog... I stay where it is cheap. I rent a car here so I can go around here to do my advanture. Of course, I have GPS with me.
Advice: It is hot here. It is cooking out there.

Was the interview a 1-on-1 or how was it set up?

Could we get some more feedback on the essay? What kind of topics are they giving out? I've never had an essay at an interview previously in my past years interviewing. Just want to know a lot more on this aspect of the interview. Thanks in advance.

I was also granted an interview in the early part of Aug. and have set the interview for Sept. 6th. I was curious on what to expect. Does anybody have some info??????? Specifically, regarding the essay...

I think the essay topic is random; therefore, just get whatever you need for it.
Mine is about my clinical experience.
I didn't pay much attention on others, but you have the option to pick one.
The essay part is based on my experience with the dental schools that I had interview with.
Please don't make it as certain guidelines........ or something must happen in your interviews.

I interviewed there on the 27th:

Here were my essay questions:

1. Explain string theory using mathmatical verbage

2. Who will you be voting for in the upcoming presidental elections and why?

3. Who's your daddy?

Come on guys... why would you ask us to help you cheat to gain an advantage over those of us who have already interviewed?

Just relax, take your time and you'll be fine. They are NOT trick questions, they are just there to see if you can formulate a simple idea/opinion and translate that onto paper. If you've gotten this far in the application process your going to be fine...

I agree with you.
And wow, The first one is a very interesting question.
I learned that theory in my physics II. That is a cool theory.
The string theory is a magical theory....
This school is sure on the front edge of science.

I like the 3rd question, because we're all going to need a "Daddy" to afford the tuition if we get accepted!

is it just me or does it seem like almost all of the people who are interviewing at Midwestern are also interviewing at ASDOH, is there something going on here, just playin and good luck to all of you

I have read some posts saying that the guy who ran the interviews at ASDOH last year is running them at midwestern this year, were there political, geographical, or other odd questions at the interview, or was it normal questions you'd expect at a dental school interview?
