Midwestern vs Case? which one would you choose and why?
Also, which one is more laid back?
Please feel free to add any comments, thank you very much!

Midwestern:
Pro:
(more?) laid back
1st year board, 3 month preparation
1yr class + 3yr clinic
more care for students as a new program?
Con:
4yr (tuition+ fees)=247k
unknown clinic style
Case:
Pro:
4yr (tuition+ fees)=238k
pass/fail
laid back?
low attrition rate
Con:
safety?

depends where u wanna live for 4 years I think 10K is nothing to stress about and I think newer schools take it alittle bit easier if thats what you mean . I went to case I mean staff and facilities were great but I couldent see myself living in OHIO you know and I went and withdraw but maybe thats just me . just see which one fits you better . at least AZ is always sunny

I don't REALLY think that 9K difference in the programs really matters at this point. It's not like you're comparing MW/Case to the UPenn or USC where there will be over 100K+ difference. If I were you, the decision WILL come down to the locations purely. Arizona has GREAT hot weather; Ohio.......hum Unless I want to shove snow out of my driveway and wearing all those snow gears, I wouldn't really move there. That's just me though. Both are great schools even though some people would say Case is more established, but MW is probably where I would go. Both are great programs and they both got EXCELLENT EXCELLENT facilities.

My friend and his classmates who currently go to MW absolutely love their school. They do take care VERY good of their students.

seems everyone is choosing midwestern? (for the weather?) 🙂

thank you!

If you want sunny weather, you should pick florida schools like NOVA.
The last time I went to Midwestern, it was freezing outside.

really? interesting.

I am more confused now.

Does anyone know how many D1 & D2 students failed one or more classes in Midwestern and Case? I think that would be a indicator of the stresss level in each school?

Simple, go to an accredited dental school. In your case, its Case. Also it is also best to pick a school that is already constructed.

Pro-MWU: In terms of accreditation, there really isn't too much to be worried about. We have faculty who have performed site visits themselves for other school's accreditation, so they know what they're doing. In addition, we had a mock site visit a few weeks ago that went extremely well, so I am not concerned about our accreditation status. As for facilities, you saw the sim clinic when you toured the campus. Do you really think there would be issues with the clinical facilities? In addition, our clinical faculty are practicing dentists, and there is a great faculty:student ratio. Choose the school that YOU think would be best for you. Take into consideration climate, proximity to family, cost of living, etc. Private message myself or other MWU/CASE students if you have specific questions about our programs and we'll be happy to answer them. Best of luck with your decision!

i'd pick MWU over Case although i've never been to Case. I interviewed there in Jan. 2009 and fell in love with the school(not as much as with the school i attend now though 🙄). Top-notch facilities with faculties who seemed to care so much about their students, not to mention the weather and location, which is closed to Vegas and Cali. I wouldn't worry about accreditation. please take this with a grain of salt! You are the one who makes the decision. 🙂

Midwestern isn't fully accredited yet because the ADA needs to see the students in the clinic and Part II scores. You can't accredit a school that you don't know how successful the clinic will be. It will receive it's accreditation when it's first class graduates (2012). Obviously you don't have to worry about that.

got your message, check your pm. Gluck

Case is amazing, the dental school is established 100+ years ago.
definitely no competition here, Case hand down.

I interviewed at both schools, and I would say Midwestern. I loved AZ weather and the campus is really nice (where Cleveland, lets face it, is pretty crappy)

I would check out the Case c/o 2014 thread here on SDN. Now, pretty much every school is gonna have some bad apples in the bunch, but it's worth checking it out....

Good luck deciding!

I would pick Case over Midwestern no brainer.
But again, it's different for everyone..

for me, it matters when I tell other people or dentists where I will be attending dental school. I know it shouldn't but it does for some people and the way I like to socialize with others, it actually gets brought up a lot. I like to attend school which had been around and produced good dentists whereas the other is too new for me to try unless I don't have any other options.
But again, Midwestern has a good reputation so far and I think you would be safe with either one, but I just like to spend my 200k dollars on something that's been established (also Mid-level Provider Program at Midwestern is kinda scarring me..)

is that why you picked USC over Western? Just curious!
anyway congrats on your acceptances!! 👍
