I was accepted to Midwestern University (CCOM) a few weeks ago, and just received news that I’ve also been accepted to the University of Illinois College of Medicine but for the Rockford campus. I'm incredibly grateful for both opportunities, but I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. For some context I grew up in Chicago and now I live in the suburbs about 20 min away from Midwestern so I would be able to live at home. I also don’t have an interest in rural medicine which is emphasized at the Rockford campus. I'm hoping to match into a competitive specialty and would have to do research which also doesn't seem as readily available at that specific campus at UIC. So any advice would be appreciated 🙂

go to uic rockford. MD will get you into a competitive specialty and it will be way cheaper. I go to CCOM, they dont have clincial research for the most part so don't let them fool you. You would have to find that yourself. Also yes you're 2 hours from chicago, but you're going to be very busy so you wont miss anything.

Getting a USMD is the most important thing you can do for yourself at this stage to match competitively. And there’s no chance I’d ever pay that CCOM tuition unless I had to.
