How many people are they planning to interview? Seems like everyone is getting one. BTW if anyone can give me some info on the interview it would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know about the possible essay question during Midwestern interview, Tnx.

I definitely think they are inviting a TON of people. Well, I mean, if someone gets into Midwestern (which doesn't even have a school built yet) and another school that already technically has a school built, and is already accredited, which would you choose? I'm sure they are thinking the same thing.

From what I have heard about midwestern is that they are inviting 400 people for interviews. The class is 100 spots. In my opinion, they are going to need to interview alot, because the whole uncertainty of a new school will probably scare alot of people away. This said, I'll be there later this month for an interview, ha ha....

I've already interviewed there myself and I can confirm that they intend to interview between 300 and 400 applicants. I forget how much of the class they plan to fill with November 30th acceptances.

If I remember correctly, they said they were looking to fill @ 60% of the class on Dec 1. Supposedly, everyone who interviewed prior to that timeframe will hear SOMETHING @ Dec 1st.

Hi Shane, Congratulations on your interview. Can you give us some feedback on the interiew and specifically what was the essay about and how long was it. I would really appreciate it.

After our interview day we were asked not to share interview questions or essay questions with future interviewees. That being said, I can assure you that the questions asked during the interview are essentially no different than what you would expect at any other interview. Also, you are giving several topics to choose from for the essay. It is one page and should not be difficult if you are a normal, functioning human being.

Just relax, be yourself and everything will go smoothly.

Good Luck!

Like what has been said previously, they are interviewing 400 applicants for their 100 seats. They said they'd accept 60-70% which equates to 60-70 seats on December 1st. I don't know the number that have been interviewed pre-december 1st though...but I'd imagine it's no more than 250. That'd put you in a 1/3-1/4 chance of getting accepted on, I guess, Nov. 30th.

I agree, out of respect for the school, especially Dean Simonsen, I wouldn't go into specifics about the day but like NewMex said, nothing to worry about, it was a good experience and you should be fine.

Its probably much higher than 1/4, since not everyone accepted will choose to go there seeing how Midwestern is a new school.

Agreed, but it's still a 1/4 overall chance...that factor will hopefully assure me a seat there. I'd say it's my 1st choice for sure now. I'm not worried about the accreditation.

Why is it your first choice smills? what do you like about midwestern over other schools?

Wait, they're not accredited? And you're not worried? 😱

they have their provisional accreditation. So they are accredited and everyone that graduates will have an accredited license

My wife graduated 1st class of a dental hygiene school in Utah. I applied to Midwestern, and have an interview there Dec 10. However, I know the difficulties of being a first class because of my wife. The bugs they have to work out will be tremendous, i'm sure. Plus, the government will not give you any subsidized loans because the school is not accredited yet. So, take the most expensive school in the nation and then add on all the interest in PRIVATE loans = you're gonna be WAAAAY in the whole if you go to midwestern.

It accredited. However, I'm not worried about the accreditation process which is a 5 year process from the beginning if I'm not mistaken. If I get in there, attend there, graduate from there, I will have a DMD degree equal to the DMD/DDS degrees that will be awarded throughout the nation in 2012. So, I'm not worried about the whole process that the school has to go through to finalize their full accreditation. My school of Public Health was just fully accredited last month, and they just graduated their first class in May. I graduate this coming May.

They will give you subsidized loans because they are as accredited as a school can be. We've always been able to get subsidized and un-subsidized stafford loans at ASDOH even though our "final accreditation" was only approved this last Summer.

Don't be scared off from any new school because of stuff like this. There may be other considerations about a new school, but this should not weigh in at all.

What do you like best/least about ASDOH that you think Dr. Simonsen will bring with him to Midwestern? Thanks.

Dr. Simonsen is very professional and was a very strong student advocate at ASDOH. He's not afraid to take a stand even if it is contrary to school policy. I have a lot of respect for him and I would hope that he returns the sentiment.

Dr. Simonsen will surely bring an emphasis on being well-rounded (liberal politics, current events, geography, etc.) and I would leave that to you as to whether that is a pro or a con for yourself.

Good luck.

As in left-wing politics?

I interviewed at Midwestern in Late Aug. I thought the school was doing really well in presenting a professional atmosphere. Dr. Simonsen was very nice, professional and easy to talk to. I really liked the guy. I actually enjoyed every minute I was there, except the 120 degree weather in a full suit. I think Midwestern is going to be an amazing school. Dr. Simonsen and a few of the people he brought over from ASDOH did a great job with that school, why wouldn't they do a great job with this school! I'm looking forward to hearing from Midwestern DEC 1st!!!!

Midwestern got their accreditation before they started interviewing students.
They just didn't update the website for that speicific information.
