im a floater pharmacist for cvs. i drive from my home to a store averaging about 70 miles each way. my home store is far from where i live, it's one of the stores in the district im floating in. i was told that floaters DO NOT get any kind of mileage reimbursement whatsoever unless you go from one district to another. some people tell me differently. does any1 know the rules about this?

Fill out a relocation form and move out there. They will probably give you a one time 5k bonus... but that might take a while to get out there. To qualify for the relocation bonus, it has to be requested (if they are having you drive out there, I am guessing they need people there) and the place has to be more than 60 miles away from where you are.

Mileage is standard in the Uk as petrol very expensive 8-10 dollars a gallon.

I get 40cts/mile from one chain and 30cts/mile from another. However, as a self employed locum (relief), I can claim 50cts/mile against tax.

I drive 2,500 miles a month, at 14 in the city and 26 mpg on the freeway if I egg-shell the gas pedal.

Dear lord... you poor people. I'd be broke... Even splitting the difference between 8 and 10, and going with $9/gal, I would've spent $108.90 last night filling my car up instead of $37.80, and that was only 3 1/2 days of driving. Egads. That's an easy $500 a week for me during a busy driving week, 2 grand a month, holy hell...

40 cents a mile is more or less what we get here... I can't imagine being paid such a low rate if I had to pay 8 bucks a gallon. Shoot, I'd burn 40 cents in no time at your prices.

I knew the UK was expensive, 4 or 5 bucks a gallon I thought, though. Does it depend on where in the UK you are, or is it pretty much a standard rate (8-10$/gal)?

We get reimbursed 48.5 cents per mile here and gas is $2.30 a gallon.

Why is petrol so much more expensive in Europe vs. US?

Per IRS rules, you cannot write off travel expenses from your residence to your place of work. You can only write off expenses in which the travel starts from your place of work.

Same rule here re travel from place of work. However, as self employed locum (relief). I can claim from driveway at home.

When oil discovered in North Sea, govnmnt decided to go for dear fuel policy as way of keeping other taxation down. also at that time had 3mn unemployed. Now oil almost exhausted and becoming reliant on Russian and Middle East suppliers.

I am aware of this particular mileage rule but was curious if you knew if there is a rule concerning travel time....If a pharmacist is asked to travel 2 or 3 or 4 hours to another location to work, is it up to the employer to compensate them or can the employer simply say we don't pay for time in the car ? thanks

I believe the rule is distance from your home store.

If your strictly a floater how do you have a home store. They owe you mileage. However, if you live out in the sticks and work in the city. It's on you.

If an emergency situation, ie locum (relief) required NOW, then some locums will expect to be paid travel time at standard rate. I have never claimed travel time but have sometimes arrived at about 11am to find scripts piled up from 9am.

I am pretty clear on the 55 cents per mile. That I am compensated for. It's the travel time to all locations other than my home store (Yes , I have a home store). I guess I'll have to check with an attorney. Just thought someone may have had some experience with this question. I am new to floating. Thanks !

There is no Federal law that mandates travel pay. There may be State laws. I would assume company and regional policies would apply. Your home store is for payroll purposes only. Are you traveling outside of your district? Do you work in a rural area? It seems an awful lot to ask of you to add an additional 25000 miles to your car each year just to get to work, not mentioning the time involved.

I get $0.505 per each mile traveled as a floater, no minimum/maximum for any trip.
