Contractor traditionally get paid more money but there are no benefits.
For example, the contractor in my specialty was paid 240K per year. BUT that did not include any type of retirement plan, health insurance, etc.
A GS-15 is not going to make 240K per year in my given specialty, but they do have the option of taking advantage of TSP (the government version of 401K) and are offered health benefits if they opt.
