So I know it's to early to be freaking out here, but I just need to vent a bit. I was complete at 25 schools 4 weeks ago. I know I have great rec letters, a 36 mcat, and a 3.9 gpa, and decent ec's. I have yet to hear back from a single school. I know lots of people don't have interviews, but I see some people on here have had multiple interviews that they've even had time to attend already. I'm beginning to think in the back of my head "what if I just don't get in anywhere?."

/end rant

I feel better now. lol.

Did you apply to them same schools as the other people with interviews? I know you needed to vent, and this is a better forum to do that then at the interview, but keep this in mind. The minute you come across as entitled to an interview or acceptance is the moment you get passed by.

I didn't get in with 3.99 and 36 last year. Anything can happen, but more likely than not you will get a decent amount of interviews soon. Waiting four weeks is not that long.

4 weeks is not long at all; you don't have anything to be complaining about yet. Your stats sound great, but more than likely you haven't even been reviewed yet; even if you have, you're probably a couple of weeks away from an interview invite just because there are already going to be a lot of people in front of you because you were complete in August.

I'm in the same boat 🙁. I am actually somewhat worried about not getting in anywhere, but my MCAT is lower than yours and it probably hurts my chances. So, I'm applying to MPH programs as well. Ugh... I'd really hate to go through this process again in two years, but there really isn't anything I could see myself doing except medicine.

/rant

BTW, I was complete in mid/early August at my schools too. About half of them haven't/just started giving out interviews now, so that does give me hope.

🙄Yes, be sure to keep your foil hat on while thinking such sacrilegious thoughts lest the adcoms reject you out of spite.

I can't help but notice that a LOT of the early invites at top schools are for URMs. Especially if you see someone with a mediocre gpa/mcat and you're wondering why they got an invite to this top school and you didnt...well, that may be why.

Start complaining in December...

Ahhhh, yes, I posted a similar thread, and I am in almost the exact same situation as you. Just hang tight and relax I guess... that is what I'm trying to do... but doesn't it just drive you crazy?! Good luck, I'm sure we'll hear back soon! :xf:

Hey OP I'm sure you'll have them lined up in a few weeks here. I'm a picture of mediocrity with my 3.65 and 31Q, and I'm starting to sweat as well, but I was also complete in early-mid August so it's still early. Jeez, I only applied to 15 schools. Too late to add a few?

If you're going to add, add now! Otherwise, soon it will be too late. ::cues dramatic music::

If you picked wisely, then you won't have to apply to more. I don't think 15 is too few.

How do you know that you have great letters of recommendations? I have never read a single one of my letters of recommendation - I consented to keep them confidential and unavailable for my review. Have you actually read all of your letters of recommendation? If so, that is unusual.

It is early and with your stats, you should have plenty of interviews eventually. If not, then I would guess you got a malignant letter of recommendation.

I read some of mine because even though you waive the right to read them the writers could still give you the privilege. Some may even ask you to write a draft that they could later sign. Some may even write it while you're in their office.

That's true about malignant letters, by the way. Malignent LOR's are far more damaging than a badly written PS.

wow. I think 90% of similar applicants got in. Good luck this year.

I'm impressed with your vast collection of Kate Walsh.

I've never seen the same pic twice.

And how would one "notice" this? Do you scour the mdpps for race?

Get a life.

Pathetic.

It's no secret that the first invites tend to go to URMs and applicants with extremely high stats.

Why don't you get a life instead of snapping at people in random internet forums.

Let's please keep this civil and on topic. In addition, any discussion of affirmative action is more appropriate for the sociopolitical forum.

I'm not sure if this is true. Based on the conversations I've had with people at the interviews I've attended as well as other friends who got early interviews, there were a mixture of high stats, average stats, etc. (of course, not everyone was so willing to talk about stats.. these conversations mainly took place in relaxed settings at socials outside of the interviews) and there were hardly any URMs there. As a matter of fact, I was the only URM at 2 of my interviews, and one of 3 at another. I think that application timing is key to early interviews. I had my stuff in and AMCAS verified by June 11 including my rec letters. I think that's what contributes to early invites. I doubt very seriously that ADCOMS scour through apps and say, we'll put this early app aside so that we can interview more URMs and people with super high stats.

Thank you for sharing your opinion calmly. You're right, I don't have any hard facts on this. I do think that having some especially sought-after aspect (some sort of diversity you'd add to the class, whether through race, an interesting EC, etc) to your application does help with getting into the first batches of interviews - nothing wrong with it, of course, makes sense that med schools can pick and choose who they want to interview first.

but wow, 2 interviews already? that's impressive, congrats 🙂

haven't seen any URMs either. actually i would say 75% at my vandy interview were from over represented groups and the rest were caucasian. kinda follows the definitions of those words huh

Thanks🙂 Thankfully I've had 3 so far and one coming up late October. Likewise I also already have 3 rejections and 3 pre-interview holds. Sometimes applying early has its cons too... early rejections LoL

I am definitely not fronting any kind of "air of entitlement," for those of you who are thinking along those lines. I'm definitely concerned about not getting in anywhere, which is why I applied to 25 schools. I also know it's early, but it's not to early for paranoia to start creeping into your mind.

Since all of the letters go to a committee writer, I know from him that they were great. He happens to be my long-term boss as a tutor, and he knows me very well. His wording was along the lines of "damn, from your letters I would think your next task would be to turn water into wine."

You supposedly have the total package. You need to chill out. If you think you're not going to get into a single school with a 3.9/36 you're out of touch with reality. If you applied wisely (not all top 20 schools) then there is no reason you won't receive an interview, unless there is something you aren't telling us.

URMs are ruining the world. I heard there was a URM running for president or something, he has not shot at winning.

Oh yea for sure. Half the Bush administration was URMs, and those guys nearly destroyed the country, ya know? Every time I hear about another wall street tycoon defrauding investors or corrupt congressman accepting bribes, I just know it's a URM.

You know the rest of you are thinking the same thing.

Well, I just checked my email and heard back from my first school today: rejected by Mayo. lol. Let's hope there will be some positives soon.

No one is suggesting that you are. I think that's good advice for any applicant going on an interview.

I interviewed early at a lot of top schools, I didn't see an overabundance of any given racial group or gender.

First of all, nice stats. Second, if you are a decent person, you will get in somewhere within the next year or two.

Just relax. So what if you take a break for a year and actually do something other than study 24/7😛. What is the worst that could happen if you don't get in? What is the best thing that could happen if you don't get in? Some people actually prefer to delay admissions by a year to do some exploration before med school.

Thanks man. That actually helped to calm me down and put it in a good light. I appreciate it!

Why? There must be something...

This process makes me hate bureaucracy. Maybe I shouldn't even go into medicine since there seems to be a sea of that.

A few things med school admissions can do to make the application process less a cluster****:
  1. Complete people in order of actual completion.
  2. Send out secondaries in order of verification and AMCAS addition, not in arbitrary batches that make person A who was verified 1 day after person B be 30 days late in getting the secondary.
  3. Have a functional and informational status check, so people who have problems or need additional materials can be informed ASAP and not told only after their 10th call to the admissions office one month later.
  4. Don't have rolling admissions if you can't handle the application swarm and ensure numbers 1-3.

34R/3.85+ish, 6 interviews now.

You're stats are awesome, be patient and (all together now) APPLY BROADLY...

3.9???? maybe you shouldnt have slacked off and gotten a B. you might want to consider nursing school or a high school counseling job.😀
