I have a quick question regarding the minimum pre-req grades for schools, specifically Midwestern U. My freshman year, I received a C- in chem, and never bothered to re-take it, and I've noticed that a lot of schools say that grades of C- and lower are not acceptable for pre-reqs. I didn't realize Midwestern U-CCOM had this requirement until after I applied to it. The thing is, last week I got an email from CCOM saying, "Your academic credentials meet our minimum requirements and you are eligible to move to the next phase of the admissions process." Their admission page clearly says that no grades below a C are accepted, so my question is, did they somehow not see my C-, and since they said I meet their academic requirements, would they actually consider my secondary app if I fill it out? Thanks

Depends on your stats. What are they? Some schools will forgive this, while others will not.

My freshman year was pretty abysmal and ended up with a 2.7. But after that I took as many upper-level science and math courses as I could, and did pretty well. Had an A- on orgo, A- in a&p, A- in genetics, A in molec, etc. Had a nice upward trend and ended up with a 3.4. I just don't want to fill out this secondary app and waste my time and money, just to have them say that C- isn't sufficient. On one hand they said that anything below a C wont't count, but they said I hit the minimum requirements, so I feel like they're sending mixed signals.

While you may pass an initial screening your application may still be considered deficient. You'll want to check with them directly so that you still have a chance to enroll in a Spring chem class just in case.
I know my school (MSUCOM) will not allow anyone to matriculate with a C- in any prerequisite course -- though you can still be accepted pending plans to address deficient coursework.

Thanks for the insight. I will definitely email them and see what they say.

I was accepted and I have two labs in the pre-reqs that are below C from many moons ago. It all depends. I also have a 4.0 in an SMP and a decent MCAT so it basically doesn't matter. Some schools may stick to their guns and just pass you by, but some will actually realize how little it may matter at this point.

Also, keep in mind that AACOMAS only inputs whole letter grades into their transcript format. At least, I strongly believe so.

So that is something to consider.

That's 100% not true.

I though they converted them to whole letter grades? If not I must be mistaken
