For those who are currently attending U of Minnesota, I've been accepted for fall of 2007 and have a question...

There is a fourth year at my work who told me that ITV makes it possible to only attend in-person, on campus classes for labs and discussions. That it is theoretically possible to only have to travel to campus for labs and discussion, and do the lectures online (not that one would miss all the lectures, but it would be possible). Is this true? I've been accepted to Creighton web-based and Minnesota - interested in Creighton because of the distance possibilities, but this now puts a spin on things...

Any thoughts are welcome - thanks!!!

Hi Ddoc, congratulations on getting to UMN and creighton. I'm PD1 at UMN. The ITV is not web based learning but rather a system that allows the TC and duluth campases to have a class together. All the lectures done on ITV are recorded hence you can watch them online later. Out of the 9 classes I'm taking, only 3 are on ITV (1 of which attendance is mandatory)

If you don't want to have to travel to campus then Creighton is the way to go. For UMN, you have to be present for 99% of lectures and labs.

Are you absolutely certain about mandatory attendance? I thought the point of recording the lectures was to make attendance voluntary (excepting Dean Carter's class).

Idk, I thought that attending class was usually the better option unless I firmly believed in the lecturer's incompetence (Midwestern grad here). Even working on other things while in lecture, I still got something (excepting the pharmacologist who read verbatim from her notes).

Incidentally, grats on your dual acceptances! I've heard mixed reviews on Creighton's online program, but then again, I've heard mixed reviews on UMN's live program!

Choose the program that you believe can make you the pharmacist you want to be. I cannot speak for Creighton, UMN has a decisively clinical and institutional focus to the exclusion/detriment of community pharmacy (OTCs are an elective class here, while advanced kinetics is a requirement!).
