I will try to find out this week how far the IS list moves, although it doesn't really matter because every year is so different.
I will try to find out this week how far the IS list moves, although it doesn't really matter because every year is so different.
The list moves the most in the first month or so, while people find out about other acceptances, etc. I moved from 14 to 3 by early May, and it took until mid-July to get accepted.
The year before me (so, 2005), I know #15 IS got in. But rumor had it the year before that only 3 IS waitlisters got in.

Does anyone know how big the OOS waitlist usually is?

Not sure but in my letter with my rank # it showed my # out of 32 IS wait listed applicants. I'd assume you'd get the same thing for OOS list.
Hey everybody!
I'm a second year vet student, and i probably met a few of you at one of the OOS weekends. For now, I just want to let y'all know that I'll try to help answer questions (along with the awesome StealthDog).
Good Luck!!!

You guys are making me nervous, and I haven't even decided when to apply to vet school yet! I'm in-state MN and it's my first choice school right now, so maybe I'll see some of you in a couple of years.
Good luck to all of you! The winters aren't as bad as they look, and it makes spring feel so fantastic when it does arrive.
I'll be rooting for all of you!

For all you OOS waitlist people, I am 98.4% sure that I am going to turn down my OOS admission. I have thought a lot about it, and while I loved the school, faculty etc., 42K a year is insane for my financial situation. But I think I will be doing the MPH program there, so hopefully I can get a little Minnesota education in my life after all, at in-state rates, ha ha.
Hope this makes someone very happy, and I am sorry you aren't OOS, carrbear, or it would be all yours!

Will you be going to VA-MD then, fargeese?
It's between WI and Va-Md. I am going to go out to the open house in WI and see how I like it, and go visit classes at both VA and WI to try to get a feel for the faculty teaching style and the faculty-student interactions etc. WI is only 25K OOS and is stronger than MN in food animal I think, so of the two I would take WI over MN.
How about you Vagirl? I am waiting to hear what you decide too...are we to be classmates? 🙂 That would be tres cool!

I promise I'll let you (and everyone on SDN) know when I know. Congrats on your triple offers, though! Yay!!
Thanks, Fargeese! I'm so happy, I can't even believe it.
waitlisted. #9
Congratulations to everyone!!!!

Sorry adOggy. At least you still have somewhere to go!
FYI for those alternates-- I e-mailed Larry Bjorklund today and was told the waitlist does not move until April 15th at the earliest. I guess that's when those offered positions need to have their $ in to reserve their spot. 6 more weeks of waiting...

I'm sorry, adoggy, I know you really liked MN. Western and KSU are great schools though, do you know which one you prefer so far? I actually applied to KSU and got rejected right away, but I really like the faculty there. Everyone was so friendly when I called for updates.

Thanks guys... I'm so bummed right now, but I'll get through it..
Hobiecat, I will probably end up at Kansas State most likely... and yes, I really liked Kansas State a lot when I went too... I just wish I didn't like Minnesota so much when I went there! But that's okay... that's life I guess... but congrats again to everyone else!

Hey all OOSers. Although I am IS, I was told during my interview that they went "quite a ways down" on the OOS waitlist last year. That could be very good news for you all!
Yay! I grew up (mostly) in MN and going back for the interview reminded me of how much I loved it there.😍
STILL no letter. I wonder where it is? 😀 I'm not even that anxious, just surprised by the USPS. They came through so well with UW ...
That is very strange... what's the deal?!

I'm keepin' my fingers crossed for ya, Wi Girl....!!!!

I noticed that students are required to purchase laptops before they start classes at MN. Does anybody know how much of the material is on the computer? Do the teachers provide notes electronically? What exactly do they require the computer for? Do many students use tablets?
Sorry for the multitude of questions.
Sorry for the multitude of questions.
Hey VelcroSky,
Although you are required to have a laptop, you are not required to buy a new laptop if you have already have one. Though, you have access to an additional 1400 in financial aid first year specifically to buy a laptop, so now might be a good time to get a new one if the one you have is old. Oh, and for any fellow Mac folks out there... yes, your mac will work just fine here!
You'll have probably about 50/50 printed notes versus computerized notes. When they are available, I think the majority of people take notes on their computer instead of printing these out. First year, the major use of the computer is an images CD for anatomy and histology classes.
Last, a few people have tablets here... but in my talks with them their satisfaction level with tablets is very poor. They paid a premium for a function they don't really use much. Plus, it seems those computers have had a really tough time with repairs.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your answer. If you don't mind, I have a follow up question. For the classes with computer notes, how do people take notes. I ask because that was one thing that really appealed to me at IL. A student there showed me her computer and the great thing about the tablet was if she wanted to make side notes she could just draw them on the screen.

WIgirl- Did you STILL not hear from MN?!

Well ......
no letter today. So I called the office, and no one who can give me the info is in. Karen is on (her hard earned) vacation, and Larry is out of the office until noon tomorrow. They seemed really surprised I hadn't received it yet ("wow, those all went out last week, you should have got it by now"). My thought is small envelops are more easily lost than large envelopes .... 🙂 I still have WI though!

I have absolutely no connection to this thread, BUT the same thing happened to me...one week after the letters went out I called, and it turned out the acceptance letter had been sent to the COMPLETE WRONG ADDRESS! It didn't resemble my address in any way =) So, dont' fret, accidents happen, but my money's still on the usps at this point hehe Back to your regularly scheduled Minnesota thread..and Good luck!!
Yup; only Karen or Larry can tell us. Karen is on vacation until monday, and Larry will be in tomorrow after noon. However, you can call now, and leave a VM for larry asking to be called back with a decision. This is what I did at least.
Where are you? I'm in Ithaca, NY (upstate).

That's funny. I don't know why they would tell you Larry is out until tomorrow. I had a meeting with him today at 2:00. Maybe he is busy with meetings.
Anyways, I have information for those of you on MN in state wait lists:
I talked to Larry, and he seems very confident I will get in (I'm #6 right now). We will get another letter with an update of our ranking around late May/ early June (depending on when people who are accepted have replied to them). So Carrbear21, I would say your are Def in!
I'm trying not to celebrate, just in case I don't get in, but I can't help but feel hopeful! Good luck to all the wait-listers, and congrats to those who got accepted!
