Minnesotaaaaahhh!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an interview invite on 9/3! My app was mailed on 7/30, and my last LoR was mailed 8/27. I'm a SD resident, and I think we have some sort of reciprocity thing with them though, so that might have something to do with it...

I also have an interview...on Oct.6th. I am a FL resident and my app was mailed 7/16 and it was complete shortly after that. 🙂

got an interview for the 10/14!

Anyone interview at this school before?... any thoughts/recommendations aside from what can be learned by perusing through the interview feedback?

Thanks guys

For the people who interviewed at Minnesota, can you please offer some information about your experience for this cycle? It is my first OOS interview. I only interviewed at one school for both cycles and am nervous about this one.

I just interviewed there this week. I thought my interview went pretty well considering it was my first. Others said they didn't do so hot, but my experience was very good. Basically just prepare for basic questions, why you want to be a dentist, what motivated this choice, volunteerism, dental-realted activities, etc. I think as long as you are prepared for the basic questions and put forth a good effort to ask some yourself, you should be fine.

I really liked it there considering I'm from FL and hopefully I get an acceptance :xf:

Thanks buddy! It will be my first OOS interview, so I'm pretty anxious but definitely taking the time to prepare... best of luck for Dec 1st!

Anyone else have further insight?...

I hope you don't mind me asking of couple of questions.
1. Was your interview open or closed file?
2. How many people interview you?
3. Is there a writing section? Case scenario discussion?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks UFRalo! This was very helpful...

To anyone interviewing, DO NOT STAY AT THE DAYS INN! THERE ARE BED BUGS! I couldn't get a good night sleep before my interview.

The school is beautiful, I am from Canada so I don't mind the cold weather. I would definitely attend if they admit me, though my interview wasn't too good because i couldn't answer some of the questions.

Aside from my interview, the tuition rate/cost of the degree caught me by surprise, according to current out of state student (not from a reciprocity state), the cost for 4 years is about 350k.

WHAT!? ... I booked that hotel for Wed night - thanks for the heads up!

I stayed at the Radisson when I interviewed. I would definitely recommend it. It was clean and quiet...and literally across the street from the school. And no bed bugs! But it was probably a little more expensive...

Yeah Radisson was good just because it was literally a coffee cup at starbucks away from Moos Tower. I found a friends and family discount code online...just try googling for it. The bill went from $140 or so down to $90. Def. worth the cost though 👍

no wonder Days Inn is half the price of the Radisson... I hope I can still get my money back since I booked it a week ago!

I was invited and confirmed the interview last week... I was told I would get an email with additional info about planning the visit but still haven't heard from them (emailed them but no reply). Anything important that I should know before booking flight/hotel? Thanks!!

Hey, the same thing happened to me last month. Don't stress about it. It took them a couple of days to email me back. If you want the email immediately you can give them a call. The email just confirms the time you're suppose to go, some general information, and gives some suggestions for hotels. No biggie.

Same thing happened to me - I was going to be flying in and needed to know hotel information, etc... I called in and the lady I spoke to was so nice and she emailed me the official interview packet with all the information within 2 minutes.

How did interview go Rubberdam man?

Interview at MN is closed file, so be prepared to bring up everything you want to talk about in the interview. They do not see your application or scores. Gives you a nice opportunity to direct the conversation where you want it to go

If we had a pre-dec interview but still haven't heard back yet... is that bad? it's been a week already since dec 1..

I wouldn't fret too much yet csweet. Another way to look at it is it's only been a week since Dec 1st. Many of the offers that went out have likely not been responded to yet. It could be days or weeks before they receive enough offer-replies and then decide they need to send out the next wave of offers.I know its hardly worth saying, but be patient!
