Is it true that you have a better chance at being accepted into any pharmacy college if you're an underrepresended minority?

Yes.THat goes for alot of things besides Pharmacy school. More and More companies are trying to diversify their workplace.

does this underrepresented minority include chinese folks? 😕

no, not ANY pharmacy college....private schools don't have to follow the rules that state schools do, so I don't think your minority status would affect your chances to get into a private school.

well see the funny thing is...
i think it depends on who you ask....
I asked a member of the majority minority group and she said that "there are so many asians they don't even consider themselves a minority"
again this is one person's opinion...
i did find it extremely amusing though....

We have a couple of chinese people in my class.

Honestly i don't pay enough attention to that stuff!

Asians are not considered underrepresented minorities because although they make up a very small percentage of the US population they make up a large percentage of univeristy and acedemic populations.

Because all Asians being smart isn't a stereotype either!
lol
I would have still thought they were a small enough number to be considered a minority.

As far as I can tell, the biggest minority group in pharmacy school consists of the few white males....

:meanie:

Relax! relax! don't do it.... 😎

Affirmative Action doesn't always work in favor for minorities, it can actually work against you. This is the case with schools whose numbers (meaning percentages) for minorities usually stay the same each year. Happened to me. I've never been in favor of Affirmative Action as a minority, and I don't plan on ever disclosing my ethnic background involving job or school again.

yep, AA doesn't always help minorities. if you look at my post up there, i kinda "hate" my own ethnic group

Exactly who is considered a minority nowadays? What if you're a half breed, as is my case? How far back to they trace your lineage? Can anyone possibly shed some light on this matter?

I'm confused, bb 😕What does this:

have to do with this:

The fact is that the majority of the white males in my class are married. The number of single people in pharm school is next to none.

I still dont see your point either in reference to the topic or discussion. Also, what makes you think just because a majority of white males in your class are married that you can hold that statistic over all white male pharm students? 😕

i think you're overanalyzing buddy, i think he's just making a random comment without good support. I'm sure he knows that too. 😎

Alright I was just saying it because the post above me at the time said that white males were the minority in his class. It is funny because males are the minority in all pharmacy schools now and in the past this was completely untrue. Now in my class and i'm sure in others (though it is wrong to make an assumption based on my limited population base) the majority of white males are married or in a committed relationship. That was my point...

I honestly do not understand why this is such a big deal. I mean right now we have 1 (one) white male who is not in a committed relationship.

Why has this rubbed everyone (in saying everyone i mean some because obviously we don't have the time or the means to say "everyone" and i'm sure there are people who dont really care) the wrong way??

i don't think it's rubbing everyone the wrong way, some people just can't stand poor logic (such as the inference you made from your small population size, no offense). I do that sometimes. and i apologize for calling you he.

It didn't rub me the wrong way, it just seemed like an odd comment from left field, and I thought it was funny. It kinda seemed to me that the subject of white males rubbed you the wrong way. It would be like me being in a conversation about someone named Steve, and out of the blue, I just blurt out "All guys named Steve are gay!," because maybe I had an ex-boyfriend named Steve and I was bitter. And then everyone would turn around and look at me and say WHAT?!?!?! 😕 And then I would say "oops! Did I just say that out loud?" 😳 So it seemed like you were somehow bitter about the fact that all the white males are taken. But maybe you're married too, and that would make it even more strange.

I think "everyone" just didn't see why it's such a big deal that white males are married or in committed relationships, and why wouldn't all the males in pharm school be taken? Why is it only white males that you focused your comment on? Most of the males AND females are married or in serious relationships in my class too, regardless of their race.

At my school, I am the only African American and there is only one Latina. So I don't know how AA was used in this case, because it would seem that there would be more under-represented minorties than just 2 out of over 160 students.

It's kinda sad when you think about it!

i definitely see your point...
and alas i'm not married...

as far as why i directed it toward white males.. it was mainly b/c the post above me said that. i really didn't pay too much attention to it until later..

We actually had far more females that were single (and still are) even when you take in the 70/30 ratio. This becomes a pain when you are out trolling for men and there really are none in school and you don't have time to go out and find one. Perhaps most people don't understand that b/c they are married already

The interesting thing is... we were given stats during orentation about how many who were currently married would end up divorced. They also talked about how many who were not married would end up marrying each other.
Of course the class was in denial (and i'm sure this will stir up some more people) but alas.... We far surpassed their divorce predictions and even had huge drama in the class about a couple who met in pharm school, became engaged, and broke off their engagement.

This however has nothing to do with anything going on in this post and i am fully aware of that. Not all classes have the same stats as mine etc.... I was just saying it as a joke.... Not all women are single/married nor are the men. I'm not on some Adcom making decisions based on race, sex, country of origin, marital status, etc. it was an observation.
and not all guys named steve are gay.
if i've missed something please feel free to point it out so i can fully correct anything and everything that may have been taken the wrong way.
