Minors
Started by Doctor Pretty
I attend a Big Ten university and my major is Public Health and my minors are Management and Forensic Science. I'm thinking about cutting out my Management minor. Do dental school favor minors or does it even matter at all?
I have no minors and believe it did not help or hurt. In all honestly, one's major typically doesn't play a substantial role in admissions either.
So what plays a role? Just grades, the DAT and extracurricukar activities?

yes, letters, whatever makes you stand out, etc...So what plays a role? Just grades, the DAT and extracurricukar activities?
I don't believe there is a space for entering a minor on AADSAS - probably wouldn't hurt you at all to drop the minor.
Can someone verify this? That would be lame if they ask for everything BUT your minor hahah
It depends on what your minor is. My interviewers said that they were impressed by my minor in Materials Science & Engineering. AADSAS doesnt have a space to mention your minor, but its all about working smarter, mention it in your PS.
Management minor = not a big deal. Its not like some hard engineering minor like sajjy worth talking about. And having a minor will matter about as much as what tie you wear to your interview. So keep it if you want to take the classes or boost your gpa, but for dental school they will not care one way or the other.
And discussing it in your personal statement = BAD idea. you want to avoid discussing business topics b/c it will seem like your in it for the money, whether you are or not

Depends how you present it.

True, I'm just saying be careful. You're walking on the edge with one.
Thanks to Everyone seriously!! I'm dropping that Management minor with the quickness. I thought it would look good since Dentistry is like a business within itself.
But I'm definely going to keep the Forensic Science minor. That could be interesting.

Randy...Its just a standard Management at my university, but I'm assuming its business related Management.
