So..I was very late with my applications, but apparently that hasn't killed my chances just yet..as I have 5 interviews coming up. Unfortunately, those 5 interviews are in the next 4 weeks, and classes start week after next. So...I will basically be missing the first 3 weeks of class. Only one of my classes (pchem lab) is truly a "senior" class where the profs will be used do dealing with these difficulties. One of my classes is online, so theoretically I should be able to keep up as I'll have my laptop on the interviews. Have you guys had to miss a lot of class for interviews? How did you deal with it? Were your profs understanding? Like many anal-retentive premeds, I am not used to missing class (for any reason) -- I'm afraid my GPA will suffer. I guess this shouldn't be an issue unless I am waitlisted. Well, I suppose things will work out..I'm just kind of starting to realize how insane the next few weeks are going to be. 😱 😛 😕 Any words of wisdom?

first, yes all my profs have been very understanding. i would suggest you talk to or email them about this asap tho. of course it's worth it and you don't really have options.
second, three weeks of class for five interviews?!

OK. If you have all your prereq's done, AND you get accepted, it doesnt really matter in the long run. An undergrad degree is overrated anyway once you have an MD/DO or whatever.

I have 5 interviews in the next 4 weeks..3 weeks of those are weeks I have class... And I'll be missing the majority of my classes -- they're mostly 3-day interviews (MSTP interviews), and most of my classes are tuesdays and thursdays. Ohh, what the heck, here's my schedule, while I'm stressing over it:

Northwestern -- 1/12-14
Medical College of Wisconsin -- 1/19-21 (classes start 1/18)
Duke -- 1/25-27
Harvard -- 2/1 (may be another day, they haven't told me when my HST interview is yet)
Mayo -- 2/3-6

So, I have no class on Fridays, but I'll still be missing a lot.

You CAN make it work. Between September and December, I missed like 10 days of school for interviews. I recommend befriending people in your classes who will be willing to record lectures for you on one of those little recorders. That saved my tush last quarter.

Hmm..puts a lot of pressure on -- I have like 1 day to befriend people before I start missing class. 😀 Guess I'd better show a little cleavage or something...

Hahaha, yup, I befriended quickly. 😉

It was a bit hard, the majority of my profs totally understood but catching up was pretty much entirely on my shoulders. One prof let me turn in my homework late, another let me take an exam early. It screwed up my osynth grade a little because I missed lecture and that early exam didn't provide me with enough study time, but other than that and a little extra stress it worked out.

I missed so much class interviewing that my lab supervisor knew I was there to ask for time off every time I walked into his office...

He started to get indignant around the 5th or so time...

Hey, I'd be convinced.

seriously though, in most of my classes, there's enough overlap for all the bio majors/chem minors that I usually know at least several people in a class right off the bat. Try to find them.

i missed tons of class and fell super far behind. this is entirely my own fault, though, because i *accidentally* stayed on a few of my interviews a few extra days so i could go out to the bars and such.

you have plenty of good interviews, though, so i'm sure your grades are just fine right now and could handle a bad semester just fine. skip as much class as you want, and don't worry if you get a few bad grades... just don't fail any classes!

yes, same thing happened to me. I switched around finals and made some earlier, and had to double up on certain days, leaving me inadequate study time. But you don't want to miss those interviews so it's necessary. I'm used to having to play major make up but it still sucks.
