I was wondering what the typical policies are for missing class in medical school.

My PI is strongly encouraging me to present our research at several conferences this fall, but they typically are during weekdays, so I know I would miss class. I know the majority of lectures are streamed, but schools usually have required events (labs and such) or exams throughout the week.

Is this something med schools accommodate for, even if the research wasn't performed at their institution? Or should I just contact each medical school with the tentative days I would miss?

I'm sure you can get sprung for a legit juried research presentation, and it's definitely good for your CV. The only issue you'll have is staying on top of things, because in med school, unlike college, it's often very hard to catch up if you fall behind. So be prepared to lug your books/syllabus/computer with you and burn the midnight oil.

Thanks! I was planning on streaming at night or on the plane (would be going from Midwest to west coast)

I spent more of my pre-clinical years doing research than I ever did in lecture or laboratory halls. Accommodations can be made and the only thing of note would be to inform your class mates if you have group related activities such as dissection days that they would have to do without you.

Most med schools do not require lecture attendance. If you miss a required event at my school (say a clinical lab), you need permission for absence from a dean.

It's on you to make up the missing material.

At my school 'academic activities' such as presenting at a conference are excused absences (even if something is required) up to a certain amount of absences. Should be fine. Just contact the school you finally choose when class time rolls around. Go for it and have fun!

Ditto. There's definitely someone you will either have to ask or email. Likely your course coordinator or person leading the session. Yeah, you'll have to reschedule reschedule reschedule and it'll be a headachule.
