Have any of you had experiences where a person agree's to write a LOR and then doesn't do it? I have told the medical schools that a particular LOR is coming but the person I asked hasn't written it yet, and I'm not sure if they are even going to. Is it bad to call the schools and tell them to disregard that letter and it's not coming?

what about asking the guy to get on his horse and start your letter?

I don't know the answer to this one eithe but I am waiting like, 5 weeks for someone to write a letter. Upstate will not consider my application complete without it, and even after I have told him this, he's still like: oh, ok, I'll do it this week. 😕

I don't know why people are like this. Especially professors and students, it's kind of an unwritten law that if you're a professor and a decent enough student asks you for a letter, you just do it. It's really mean to say you will and then just not do it.

Frankly, I'm a little steamed myself and if I knew the answer to this question I would tell you, but I don't know either.

i asked one prof in feb and then when i reminded her this summer she was like sorry i can't write your letter, i'm really busy this summer and already commtted to 20 others. even though i asked her way back in feb!!

so i had to go back to the drawing board for another letter. two profs never responded to my many emails. i hunted one down during office hrs and he says, sure, email me again.... haven't heard from him since.

luckily, i emailed yet another prof at the same time and she happily agreed to write the letter, and she promised to do it promptly too!

anyway, i would make it clear to the prof that the med schools wont' review your app til you get all your listed letters in. if it's not a required letter, i would consider telling the school that your list of letters has changed so they can start reviewing your app immediately.
