Missing Required Classes

Okay so here's the deal: basically I'm an idiot. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh this spring with a BS in Biology and 3.56 GPA. I pretty much didn't know what I wanted to do at the time, but after 100+ hours shadowing a local optometrist/family friend I'm firmly attached to the idea of optometry.

So I took my OAT and managed to get a 350 which I was relatively happy about. I was in the process of filling out my OptomCAS when I realized that I was missing a couple of the classes required by pretty much everyone. In my undergrad career I never took Psychology or Microbiology.

So now I'm trying to decide what to do here. I still plan on applying to Optometry schools, but how do I proceed from here? Do I take these classes online, schedule them in the spring or what? I'm totally unfamiliar with doing it at another school, but I don't particularly want to move back to Pitt if I can help it. I could really use any advice you guys have. Thanks!

Just take them at a community college if possible and check to make sure they meet the prerequisite requirements. Also ask the schools you are applying to how they view online classes, some schools don't accept certain prereqs if they were taken online.

I would also make sure that they accept classes coming from a community college.

Every school I've talked to says online schools are fine, as long as they are accredited.

However most of the schools need microbio WITH lab so you might need to do that at a local college.

Taking pre-reqs at an accredited community college is generally fine. For example, I was accepted to Berkeley and SCCO for this Fall and both schools were willing to accept community college courses. I was in the same situation as you. I took Microbiology with lab + an online psychology class through the local community college and those were fine. To ensure those classes will meet the requirements though, you should email the schools you're interested in. Send them the course description of the community college courses and ask if those classes will be sufficient.
