Missing Schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Last year the U of C was very very late and very very disorganized regarding interviews and post-interview stuff. Kind of strange considering they want an early answer and their program requires you to start early.

Things probably haven't changed this year. Just thought I'd give you a heads up...

Yeah, thanks. I just looked and saw that nobody posted an acceptance until 3/20. Hopefully they just haven't started interviewing yet...

Absolutely nothing. Dead silence from ...
1. WashU (file completed ~ Oct 20, they sent a letter to me along w/ that faculty interest book, which they send to everyone, I guess)
2. Baylor
3. Stanford (file completed ~ Nov 3, as shown on the status check)
4. Harvard (file completed ~ Nov 10, I received an email from the admssion office saying so)
5. Yale (this is even more ridiculus, I'm sure I've sent in my letters of rec TWO months ago, and my status check shows that three letters are still missing.😕 😕

Do these schools take this much time? and what should I do? call them? if so, what should I ask/say?

CALL THEM! Ask if your file is complete and what your application status is. With WashU and Harvard you're probably on "hold for interview", which is a status they won't notify you about unless you call and ask. As for Baylor, Stanford, and Yale, I'm unsure, though some schools wait forever to send out their rejections. Still... CALL THEM! You don't get penalized because you're on top of things.

I don't understand why people are so scared to call admissions offices. You could be on hold as a result of their screw up. Believe me, if they don't think they have something, they aren't going to notify you except to send you a rejection later in the season because your file wasn't complete.

Good luck!

thank you for the quick response, Neuronix. will do that right now. 🙂 🙂

I have not heard from the following programs.
All the files were completed late October to mid-December (usually close to the due dates, I am a master procrasinator)

IOWA
NYU
DUKE
BAYLOR
STANFORD
UCHICAGO
UW-MADISON
UWASHINGTON
UPENNSYLVANIA
JOHN HOPKINS
YALE

Any idea why? I have had one phone call from Stanford during December because they had some problems with my letters, and I had several e-mails from Wisconsin, but now I heard nothing! Should I pick up my phone and start making calls?

BandGeek, thanks for the advice on U of CO. 🙂 🙂 🙂
As for this thread, I can only tell you that it took U Penn ~ 2 weeks to send me interview invitation (completion: 11/05/03 as shown on status check, invitation: 11/21/03), although I might just be luck.
And dead silence from Baylor and Stanford too. I called them but got same old "in process" response. 😕 🙄

Read my previous post... CALL THEM!

As for Penn, they're still sending out invites. It depends on your graduate group of interest as to when you'll get an invite. I think the latest you'd get an invite is the middle of this month. Still, call and find our your app status.

Good luck!

Hmm Neuronix. So does it mean if I have not heard from Penn so far (since its the end of December) I can assume that I probably did not make the cut? I called them either late November or early December to find out what the status of my application was and the lady on the phone told me that she could not reveal anything more than what is on the website ( the website seems to have info only on whether your application is complete or not) - that any other info will come by e-mail.

Hmm...

Nah, it doesn't mean that you've been rejected. It depends on what graduate group they place you in. Even then, they could have put your application for later review. The last interview date is like the end of January, but I'm sure they'll be sending out invites up until the week before. If you don't hear by the end of January, consider that a rejection.

I hate it when they won't give you any info. But, such is the way the cookie crumbles I suppose. At least you know your file is complete.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reassurance.
