Just a heads up on this question. The answer is definitely "law of independent assortment", contrary to what is marked. The law of segregation pertains to the separation of allele pairs into gametes. The law of independent assortment refers to independent separation of homologous pairs.

Look at the key word homologous. If it was heterozygous then it would be independent assortment.
Mendel's second law, the law of independent assortment, says that alleles of different genes assort independently of one another during gamete formation.

I don't believe the explanation you've given is correct. Let's keep in mind the question is asking which law refers to the fact that homologous chromosome pairs segregate independently in respect to others.

Both laws have to do with the fact that homologous chromosome pairs separate. The law of segregation simply says that when we produce gametes, our pairs separate so that our gametes have only one copy of each allele. In other words, alleles of the same gene separate when we form gametes. But the law of independent assortment states that the orientation and subsequent separation of each pair is completely independent relative to the separation of the other pairs. So only the law of independent assortment could be applicable to this question, not the law of segregation.

You're right. I didn't read the last part of the question carefully and ignored the last part (segregate independently). Considering the information you have given I would say that its independent assortment.

Yes agreed, there are some annoying errors I found scattered throughout the many quizzes. I feel as if they went purely for recall questions as a lot of it I remember can be found verbatim in cliffs ap bio. That being said, whenever I found an error (or what I thought was a bad question) I went through my resources and wrote detailed reviews/complaints and ended up getting a couple of questions changed, but then I think they caught on and started to ignore me. Some people may off the bat be discouraged by shifty questions and answers but learning can still take place! Analysis of the quality of explanations/answers/qs and following up by injecting notes/NIH articles to make the quizzes better is a good use of chads bio imo. Cant speak on the videos

I watched some of Chads bio videos. There are a lot of errors. I had already gone through campbell's for physiology. There were numerous errors and I just stopped altogether after 2 videos because it was just confusing me. Made me second guess my notes and ended wasting so much time just making sure I was correct.

Chad is fine for chem, but Chad's bio is a no go for me.
