Mixed relief after passing Step 1

Anyone else having difficulty relaxing after passing Step 1?

Sorry, I know others are struggling with having to take it again but I remediated M2 so the last 2 years have been an anxious build-up to this and now…I don’t feel the relief I thought I would.

Can anyone relate?

I hear ya. You've been at a pretty rough baseline level of stress for a long time, so it's probably not gonna be as easy as flipping a switch and turning off the stress response. If you have the time and money, maybe take a short vacation? Doesn't even need to be something extravagant, just get yourself out of the med school environment for even a weekend. Try to get back into some hobbies you might have neglected up until now. Talk with your family and friends about your feelings. Maybe see a counselor too. Congrats on passing by the way!

I haven't seen Step 1 pass rates since it became P/F. I know that in the past, fail rates were exceedingly low.

As someone who had a step 1 decently below average, I studied just as much and as hard as my classmates who got upper percentile scores (and we often studied together to boot). Even just passing is a monumental effort. So yes, probably still stressful lol

Do you all feel that your classmates are studying less for Step 1 and are more presumptuous about passing, or do people still take the exam as seriously as in the past and are diligently managing their study during pre-clinicals, especially during designated study periods? Thanks!

Last year one of my classmates registered for May 20 - or somewhere around there, I don’t remember exactly. Our rotations start in the first week of July so he thought he could get around 6 weeks of vacation before starting rotations. He didn’t even start studying or taking any NBME till around May 1. He thought he could get away with just 2-3 weeks of studying. He miserably failed an NBME, and pushed it till the beginning of June, and then pushed it again to the end of June, and then canceled his first rotation to push it into July.

Poor guy never got a vacation….
