hello,

I am curious about something. What is the difference between a Surgical Technologist and a Surgical First Assistant? The reason I am asking this is because I was reading in a school handbook about two types of surgical technologist programs--diploma and associate degree. In the Associate Degree program, there is a subject called "First Assistant Practicum". Now here is what confuses me: I thought that Surgical Physician Assistants were the Surgical First Assistants....not the surgical technologists...

It may depend on where you are. I've worked as a surgical technician for the past two years, and my training was on the job training. I not only first assist, but I run the mayo and second assist as well. I work in a rural area though, so it is probably a lot different in a bigger area.
