Hey everyone,
My medicine Shelf is next Friday. I've been working pre-test and doing Case Files, but I want to order this CD, as previous posters seem to think it's great. Whaddus the "MKSAP3" stand for? I need to jet over to Amazon and order it ASAP- no time for lengthy searches (and Google is not helpul), I must study on!

Muchas gracias.

just about every resident and MS4 told me MKSAP was awesome for the shelf, and they were right. The only downside is that it takes a really long time to do the questions and read the answers (but it really does prepare you). I also used pre-test and blueprints (just as a superficial review of various topics) as well as attending the "professor rounds" (i.e. class) they held for us during the rotation and I was surprised at how well I did!

I used the MKSAP and went through the questions twice, and I learned a TON of stuff. But the real exam was really hard, and very hard to finish I thought. I didn't feel very good when I left. I don't know how others felt after the exam, but I am not sure what else I could have done to prepare for it. Budget your time wisely during the exam.

Thanks everyone. I have 3 full days to study before the Shelf next Friday (and some time weeknights). I'm going to try and get through it if possible. This is my first time ever to buy a book on Amazon and have it sent 2nd day to my doorstep, but my gut says it's the way to go for the dreaded IM shelf. We shall see.

Personally, I thought the MKSAP questions covered the right topics, but the question style was not reflective of the exam. There was much more MKSAP emphasis on latest findings and recommendations for treating specific conditions, and almost nothing like that on the shelf exam. There were some good old postings here on the shelf exam; look at those.

I received my shelf score today and would like to confirm that MKSAP3 is indeed $$$$$$.

Thanks to all on SDN who have raved about this book in the past.

thanks for the update! glad things turned out for you, i agree MKSAP was awesome. the biggest problem with the IM shelf for me was the time, it was the only shelf exam ive ever taken where when they called 10 minutes i was really behind.

Yeah, I heard this from many others and basically took the test as fast as I possibly could. I ended up with 5 minutes to spare, which as was amazing. Anyone taking this shelf should practice reading the very last line of each question first, and carefully.
