MLK-Drew program??

I was browsing the no fill programs over the past few years (on mdsecrets.com) and I noticed that the MLK-Drew program almost never fills is spots...not even close. Anyone have any info on this program. Is it the type of thing were any US grad could get a spot there? Its in a good city, why does it have such a hard time filling its spots?

Chuck Norris came through the hospital a few years ago and killed the ancillary staff and half the attendings for sitting on their asses. Ever since then the residents have been educating themselves, starting their own IVs, and wheeling patients to radiology. Unfortunately, Chuck didn't stay around long enough to teach the residents the roundhouse cric.

If it were a good program the residents wouldn't be trying to transfer out at every opportunity. It may have once been a good program. It may again be a good program in the future. But very few would argue it is a good program now. Doesn't mean the current residents won't be good doctors, but if they are, it will be in spite of the program rather than because of it.

Unfortunately success is fleeting, and the fact that all residents have to be out of the hospital by December 1st makes any further discussion of matching/scrambling there irrelevant. Also, your assertion that residents leave at any opportunity is wrong. Not a single one of my classmates left in 18 months there, and I had the opportunity to transfer out multiple times but did not.

General, did you contact the PD at Emory to see if you can slide into Dr. Myspace's spot?
 
Oh...sorry to hear that. I hope all works out well for everyone involved. I guess that ends this discussion. Dr. Myspace ;-), clever.

Let me restate it...some residents leave at the earliest opportunity to transfer to another program. I've had a lot of talks with J.R. about his experiences there. He is always positive, especially about the other residents, but he is definitely glad he left to train elsewhere. Obviously, he wasn't in your class. But I imagine that if you polled your class as to who would have left given the opportunity to transfer directly over to another program of their choice, you might be surprised.
 
This thread embodies why it is sometimes better to search before you ask (or at least read a little before you post) :meanie: :laugh:
