Hi all!

Wanted your thoughts..
Do we knock on the door for the MMI person to tell us to come in? Or you do politely just walk in when the bell rings?

When you enter and sit, do you start the acting scenario immediately? Or can we introduce ourselves, and then ask to start?

Never had one before, so if you had an MMI before, would love to hear your stories!

Schools should go over these basic rules when you get there, but based on the ones I did they asked us to knock then walk in, and be in character immediately. Once the bell ringers for it to end, you can break character and thank the actor. Obviously we're talking about acting stations here, for others just be polite and use common sense there aren't any tricks.

edit: Also FYI I've heard many stories of people marching in and saying "Hi I'm [actual name]!" because they forgot they have to be in character right away. With a bunch of nervous pre-meds that probably happens a lot, the actors will just proceed with the scene and if you don't freak out and you get in character after that it's not going to be fatal.

For an interviewer scenario only, not with actors acting out a scene:

When told to start, knock on the door first, wait couple seconds, and then enter, closing door behind you.

Introduce yourself, "Hello, I am XXXX. Very nice to meet you," with a firm handshake and smile.

Sit down and start with however method you practiced.

After bell rings to stop, say, "Thank you," with or without another handshake and leave.

Repeat...
