do you guys know of any websites or books for mnemonics, etc. that are useful for memorizing some of the drab as an MS1 (particularly biochem, cell, genetics, and anatomy)

try medicalmnemonics.com - also, just search google - there are tons of websites run by people with various mnemonics... BUT, I really think that the best mnemonics (the ones you remember the most) are ones you make up yourself...

Good luck.
Q

bump, anyone else?

The best menenemenemewmonics for me are the stupid ones that I at first say "that's dumb, I'll never remember it that way." then because I focus on how stupid it is, I remember it.

Like that stupid LR6SO4 3 thing. It looks like a chemical equation! Whoopity crap! How does that help?

Oh, it worked.

There are quite a few threads with mnemonics on SDN...you just need to do a bunch of searches using various mis-spellings of the word mnemonic. 😉

Or you could just learn the material =p
I'd rather just recall some cool info than have to recall the mnemonic and then the cool info 🙂

That said, I have used mnemonics before. But only like a few really fun ones.
C3,4,5 keeps the diaphragm alive
S2,3,4 keeps the penis off the floor
Some Say Money Matters But My Brother Says Big Boobs Matter More (motor/sensory/both for the 12 CN's)
6-4-3 double play (the surviving aortic arches, 3rd, 4th, and 6th. stupid embryo)

As for genetics and biochem? Really nothing useful i can think of there. You just learn basic genetics, it's not that hard. don't need anything really advanced. And biochem? Just memorize. forget mnemonics. memorize one thing instead of two. (and don't even memorize most enzyme names. they're usually completely obvious)

Different people learn things differently. For some mnemonics work well, and if they work for you I encourage you to make some up yourself rather than adopt others' less meaningful ones. But I caution that some people (like me) will remember the mnemonic perfectly but not be able to remember for the life of me what the heck it is supposed to be telling me.

I ate ten eggs at twelve.

Inf vena cava goes through the diaphragm at T8 (ate)
Esophagus goes through at T10
Aorta and thoracic duct at T12
