Hi all,

So... just some food for thought. I've done a lot of modeling, and some very high profile modeling at that. It pays well and it's nice to be able to use the money for my undergrad loans. I've been offered to do a swimsuit campaign and the only thing that make me nervous is medical school admissions... and I guess the openess of the internet. Adcoms can google my name and what will come up first is pictures of me in bikinis -- not even my research! You have to scroll down to find the research labs I've worked in. My patients will google me and see pictures of me as well,.. and I am not sure how bad this looks. Just wanted to know what everyone thought... pre meds, medical students, residents, etc. Do you think this could hurt my chance for admission? Would you be offended if your doctor had done swimsuit modeling?

Very unlikely that it will affect people's opinions about you. Most people won't recognize you and those who do probably won't mind. I say, go for it!

I remember some girl from my school, who was supposedly pre-med, posed topless in playboy. I don't know if she ever got accepted though, or if she even applied...

But yeah, I agree with everyone else.... pics or this thread should be closed

You can get that here, along with some replies that won't fit that category.
This type of question has a tendency to get easily derailed, as you've already seen.
 
Just use an alternate name like every other hoochie.

Yeah... woops!

Anyways, I can't post pictures correlated with my name because I've posted too many things that I would rather not be associated with me.

But... I am modeling for South Moon Under - and it comes to print in 3 weeks. You can check it out and guess who I am

My only concern, which I told chubby.. was that --> I can still pull my contract. I would lose my signing bonus and I would never be able to model for them but, I am not sure if it is necessary or not. Like... how much would it affect my admissions/ future career? Up until now, I've done relatively conservative catalogue modeling, so nothing to worry about. I am debating whether or not this will even matter with adcoms? I have about a week to decide.

I just had to comment😛 Modeling doesn't = good looking🙄. They are models needed for everything and not everything has to do with beauty.

To the OP: I don't think your modeling career should affect your medical school admissions. I agree with the other poster who said that most people won't recognize you and those who do probably won't mind! Good Luck!

if she is smart and competent, sure they will.

Seriously, OP, I think this will only help you stand out, ad comms are always looking for people with unusual experiences/accomplishments, I think it will only help you, and don't worry about someone judging you. For the most part, ad comms are professionals who will judge you on your academics, evaluations, motivation for medicine etc. I mean, it's not like you are in porn or something
 
OP, if you go to main forums listing page and scroll down just a little way, you'll find a link to Confidential Consults. There you can get opinions from real adcomm members without worrying about divulging your identity.

No no no... not porn at all! Most of what I've done is conservative catalogue, nothing scandelous. Except for South moon under which is swimsuit, but its still tasteful.

Thanks for the advice. I guess with the advent of internet, we have to watch out for everything!

i think it will be a positive attribute to your application
anything that shows that you can balance additional responsibilities and time constraints on top of pre-med coursework is great.

ive started my own photography business (sort of in the same realm) and i think it was beneficial

by the way do you have a modelmayhem or onemodelplace port?

I do... I had an OMP - but it's brief since (I feel REALLY stupid saying this) but most of my stuff is through my agent. I know i know.... stop reading this thread if it makes you annoyed!

You started your own photography business!! thats great. Thanks so much for the advice
 
You honestly think an educated professional on an adcom is going to make a snap judgment about you based off a few bikini pics? Come on. I think we're all a bit tired of these threads, frankly, because it sucks to hear an attractive person whining about how being attractive is "such a burden".

The negative of being discriminated against for your looks is far outweighed by the positives, so really, what is the purpose of this thread?
