The moderate sedation codes have changed for 2017
  • Six new moderate sedation codes (CPT 99151-99157) are available to report these services separately when performed.
  • Additionally, there is now a wRVU attached to the codes.
Cheers!

Does my office need any certification from state or regulatory body to perform in-office sedation for pain procedures? I understand there are certifications for ASC.
Thanks for the info NOSfan

Helpful heads up. Thanks

So .25 wrvu for us, right?

For the most part yes. It is still billed utilizing time so: (99152) 10-22 minutes and (99152+99153) 23-37 minutes

I sedate my patients if they request at the ASC setting. Can I now bill for Moderate sedation?

Yes. This has always been the case; however, previously there was not a wRVU assigned by the RUC.

See the simple flow chart below 😀

so I've been billing with 99144. Now I'll change over to 99152 for first 10 to 22 minutes of intraservice time, then 99152 + 99153 for over 23 minutes (which is rare)?
