Sorry about the re-post, but I am looking for additional perspectives. I am trying to complete as many classes as I can before taking the DAT. I have to choose between taking a course in comparative anatomy or molecular genetics, as they are both offered at the same day and time at my school (and only once a year). Which should I choose? I have taken a course in mammalian physiology, so would comparative anatomy be needed? Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you haven't taken a genetics course then definitely molecular genetics. You can teach yourself anatomy, while some concepts in genetics are a little bit more abstract.

Figure out which one you're least comfortable with and take that. You'll be teaching yourself the other for the DAT.

I would say comparative anatomy as in sure many principles of general biology will also be incorporated into it which is higher yield, you will likely only get 1-2 punnent squares with genetics but it's been like 6 years since I took dat

This^. I recall much more genetics on the DAT than I do anatomy. In any case you need to know a lot about genetics but not much about anatomy that you wouldn't have learned in mammalian or even your intro bio courses. Strangely my DAT had a lot of animal diversity type questions so you might be in good shape there. I hadn't taken any pure anatomy course and I did not find it overbearing. Also anatomy questions will be more factual and based on info more easy to retain. Mulling over complicated genetics questions is something you'll have an advantage with if you've also been doing it for class recently.

Take genetics. You'll learn a lot about the mechanisms behind replication, transcription, and translation. It'll also help you get the "big picture" better than an anatomy class.

both classes would be extremely useful for the DAT, but since you have already taken mammalian physiology, I think you should go with genetics. After taking genetics, I really didn't have to study anything related to genetics for the DAT because the course covered everything I would have to know.
