Do we have to know the antibonding and bonding orbital stuff? Kaplan covers it only in a paragraph and I am confused a bit.

Can anybody please help me understand it... and how much detail we need to know (i.e * and such).

do you mean bonding and non-bonding for formal charges?

well I mean, do we have to know how to calculate bond order...

i.e molecular orbital diagrams.... so there are antibonding and bonding orbitals for hybridization of elements. The bonding being lower energy and more stable compared to the antibonding pair. I think I have figured it out, but this brings me back to 1st yr hell of this theory.

ya i have trouble with that too, i kinda know what it means but not that well. it has something to do with the spin of the electrons that are coming together. if they are opposite its anti, if they are aligned its not anti....

can anyone elaborate?
