Why is molecular pathology on both the AP and CP side? I would think molecular pathology would be on the CP side. Any one know anything about this fellowship or info on molecular pathology?

One interview down and many more to go😱

Simply because molecular pathology has a lot to do with AP, especially emerging diagnostic methods and ancillary tests. You don't necessarily need to know AP that much to do molecular, but you have to understand some molecular to do AP, if that makes sense.

From my experience, molecular is quite intimate with hemepath but that's pretty much about it. You can certainly do AP without thinking much about molecular...at least now. Who knows what things will be like in 10-20 years.

I've never seen molecular mentioned on the general surgical side...ok...never say never, I know but let's just say "almost never".

We do deal with cytogenetics on general surgicals...but that ain't molecular.

Yeah, I was talking more about boards related issues. And probably in the future there will be a bit more overlap. You're right though that it is rarely if ever mentioned.

Oh, I wasn't like disagreeing with you. Sure, molecular facts do come up on boards but mainly in the context of memorizing random translocations and gene fusions for tumors.

From what I've heard it is not that competitive of a fellowship
