If say there is a cyclohexane connected to an octane chain, would we treat the cyclohexane as a substituent?

And if it were the other way around (8-membered ring connected to a hexane chain), would we treat the hexane chain as the substituent?

nomenclature is based off of the longest carbon change, so yes to both of your questions

1. #-cyclohexyloctane

2. #-hexylcycloctane
