mononucleosis

anybody had mono as an adult? how long did it take you to get over it?

Epstein-Barr Virus... nasty little bugger. Potential to cause way too much damage. Regardless of when your symptoms subside (2 - 4 weeks), take it easy for a while (4-6 weeks). The spleen has the consistency of butter; and there's an increased incidence of splenic-rupture with mono.

Also, if you experience any serious problems with fatigue or unstopped-bleeding, go see your PA or Physician.

I had a really bad time with mono in my undergrad my junior year. I got mono around thanksgiving, I also had strep. I remember taking my histology lab final with a fever of 104. My class grade was a 98% I bombed the lab final (47%): which equaled a 2.5 in histo. In the spring I took bio chem, pathophy, human genetics and physio all at the same time and then by march I had lost 45 lbs bc I was to tired to eat. I had pneumonia in feb for my bday and bronchitis that stuck with me till July. I was a 3.5 student and got a 2.5 in every class that spring, and a couple that fall (I bombed my last test and final. I have never felt that awful and hope to never again. After I had mono I slept about 10-14 hours a night for the next year and a half. The next year in June was the first time I felt normal again. My dad and sister had similar experiences with mononucleosis.

Having mono ruined my apps for med school. I was 21 then and 24 now and just now getting acceptances bc of the set back of that year.
