Hey guys, I'm almost off to my first interview and I'm about to prepare my mp3 for the shuttle ride to the school. So I thought I'd start a fun thread: what song or songs will you (or have you) listened to before big interviews (or the DAT)?

I listened to The Von Bondies "C'mon C'mon" and Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" during the dat break and I'm definitely listening to "c'mon c'mon" again before my interview. 👍

I listened to the Black Eyed Peas and "Holiday" by Green Day after I finished my DAT.

Because all the schools are at least a 1000 miles away (except one that's a 5-hour drive away)--I'll definitely listen to "I can't drive 55," "Radar love," and anything by Darude...

For you, may I suggest Pink Floyd, e.g. "Comfortably numb," and the whole soundtrack to "Lost in Translation" or something along those notes?

Since I am preparing for Footloose the musical, and the show runs in two weeks, I listened/practiced to/with the broadway soundtrack for it on the way to my UF interview.

Must now prepare the MiniDisc Player for the trip to louisville and back (sunday).

1. Feels Good Inc., Gorillaz
2. Anything by The Postal Service or Death Cab for Cutie (same lead, different band)
3. Sander Klinenberg (if you're into progressive house)
4. Juxtapose, Super Furry Animals
5. Garden State Soundtrack (just to darn awesome not to mention)
6. Jack Johnson (calms the nerves)
7. Mozart (you have to stick at least 1 in there)
8. India.Arie
9. ...anything but Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson...you get the drift.

Mucho luck!

Jamiroquai always feels right, I think I'll try it to get pumped up and funky for my next interview. 😀

Usually, to calm my nerves before an interview I like Air's "La Femme d'Argent", Zero 7's "Destiny" or "Wish you were here" by Pink Floyd. If I'm not excited about an interview I'll listen to "Ramble on" or "Black Dog" by Zeppelin.

Not to mention the Shins, Flaming Lips, Travis, Kings of Convenience, Turin Brakes, Stan Getz or Thievery Corporation. So many faves so little time. 😱

LOL, why "comfortably numb" if I may ask? I haven't listened to that since college ('90-'94). I do like the lost in translation soundtrack though...especially as CD alarm clock songs. 😎

May I suggest the best list. . .
you are going to want a majorority of calming songs
(1) anything acoustic (download the acoustic version of your favorite song)
(2) some Howie Day
(3) OAR
(4) Jack Johnson
(5) maybe a little DMB
(6) a little 2PAC (it's smooth rap that will leave you feeling upbeat and ready to roll)
(7) Lifehouse
(8) Mettalica (hero of the day)

these songs are DYNOMITE!!

I am all about calming music as well

Kitaro, sound of waves, and alike.

best of luck Mocha on your first interview... where is it at?

For Persian speakers, i suggest the song called "year of Journy" by leila... translation goes like this:
Maybe a door opens
Maybe a new path opens
maybe someone new comes
The path is safe this year
This year is the year of journy
This year is the year of hope
The doors of hope are open everywhere
Dark nights are over
My life is at a new begining
etc...

The Best Song For Interview:

Eminem - Lose Yourself

One shot, baby...

That's good stuff.

If you want some techno, I suggest the soundtrack for Run Lola Run.

If you want calming, I also suggest any sort of religious chants, either Gregorian or whatever. Just like shooting it up the trigeminal nerve. *numb*

A humorous example may go something like this.

Interviewer: So tell us about yourself?
You: .....

Interviewer: Hello?
You: .....

Interviewer: Are you here?
You: ....

Interviewer: We're interviewing you for dental school? Hello?
You: Oh yeah, I'm sorry those Gregorian Chants were so peaceful, I forgot. What were you saying? Oh. Yeah. I love dentistry.

I can't believe no one has yet mentioned The Eye of the Tiger.

 No kidding...I figured that would be the third post. I was also waiting for "lose yourself". Right now I'm in a coffee house in Louisville called Highland Coffee...you gotta love coffee and free wi-fi. 😀 Louisville seems like a pretty cool city, lots of neat stuff, I think I like it better than Indy.

My spin is that you gotta be relaxed (comfortably numb) for the interview...

Now, for your "state of mind" I'll bring up another "old schooler"--good old Billy Joel!

Don't go with the "Eye of the tiger" attitude--you're not going to become a Million Dollar Baby--you're going to become a health professional. 😀

However, that song is cute, good for taking the DAT...

1. Morcheeba, Supreme Beings of Leisure
2. Kill Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack
3. Yonderboi
4. Bent
5. Verve Remixed

Good stuff. Especially number one

In this order:

1. Beat it. Michael Jackson
2. Let's Get it on. Marvin Gaye
3. Dirty. Christina Aguilera
4. Yesterday. Hillary Duff
5. All of Lindsay Lohan's hits

I will then show up to the interview with a white glove on, talking like a cholla, and gyrating my hips. I have a friend who did this last year and got in to 9/10 schools he applied to, including Yale. Yale's D-school is probably the best.
