I am sorry for deviating from the flavour of the season- interviews, but this post is fuelled by my extreme desperation. I am a poor PGY1 in Neurology in Miami, one of the more expensive cities in the US. At my salary, I barely eat and drive to work. To make matters more complicated, I am getting married next month. This scares the daylight out of me. Hence the thought of turning towards moonlight.

If anyone knows anything about this artform in florida, please enlighten me. Is moonlighting a program dependent policy, or is it state dependent. Do i need step 3 to moonlight, and do i need my PDs permission.

Please save me and my future family.

What? 40k/year isn't enough for you? Well, I'm sure a lot of us can (or, at least, will) empathize with you. While I cannot "save your family" and do not know anything about "artform," I am quite certain that:

(1) You need the permission to moonlight from most neurology residency program directors - you don't want to be caught moonlighting without giving him/her a heads-up

(2) For moonlighting at nursing homes, hospice, and ED/medicine, you will need to pass step 3 and have a valid state medical license - which you need to apply and pay for in a rather arduous process.

Best of luck.

Thank You Play,
Till a couple of months back, I was very happy with my 40k a year. But after paying for a vacation with some friends 😀 , and a few nights out on south beach 😳 , it just doesnt feel enough anymore. Maybe i'm just greedy, but then I am human.

Thanks for the tips. I gather that my training license will not work, and I need a permanent license instead.
