When you guys/girls moonlight what do you generally bring in per month (before tax)?
-in an average month, NOT the most you ever earned.

Kind of a silly way to ask the question isn't it? Per shift would be more revealing.

FWIW, I gross about a grand a shift (varies based on weekdays/weekends/holidays). I've done anywhere from 0 to 6 shifts in a month. I'm too old and tired to do many of them anymore but I generally do 2 a month.

When I was a Young Fresh Fellow it was more like 5 or 6. Do the math yourself.

$80/hr generally. Depends on how many hours you put in. Can't go over the 80 hours total work week and I had to have the time approved by my PD before I could commit to shifts.

80/hour, really? I thought nurses asked for over >150/hour (?)

PS: Not really clued in but a private practitioner I vaguely knew wanted to hire a nurse and they demanded something like 200/hour.

where are you guys moonlighting? doc in a box? low acuity ED?

Basically on my own service. BMT/Onc. 12-14h shifts, $85-95/h.

Best night ever? 14h shift. $95/h + $200 holiday bonus pay. 4 pages prior to midnight, 2 pages after 6am. No admits. No pages requiring actual patient contact. Yes, I did get paid >$250/page.

Worst night ever? 12h shift at $85/h. 9 admits, 2 unit transfers, 2 codes, 1 death. Total clustercuss.

The bulk are more like the former than the latter (2-3 admits, a couple of really sick folks out of 40 or so patients, 1 code/rapid response/unit transfer), generally worth the money.

I have also moonlighted (moonlit...whatever) on 2 different hospitalist services. One for 50% more than that (10-15 admits including unit players/night...not worth it for twice the money) and one for 50% less (slow but still not worth the money).

If you like the type of moonlighting because you enjoy working with those types of patients, awsome but financially speaking, not sure it's worth the $$ and effort for that kind of $$$.

I think moonlighting with medicare is one of the better paying gigs, pays 100$/hr per evaluation, and you get to do about 2, perhaps 3 if you are very on the ball and efficient, so you can make 2-300 bucks an hour. Same with physical exam gigs-pay between 80-100 bucks per exam, and you can do 2+ per hour so it's a good chunk of change.

Weight loss exam gigs are also not bad, pretty low stress as well.

Seriously? Even as an attending doing locums I don't get much more than 80-90/hr. That's what I made moonlighting too. It's 100/hr for ER as FP
