Moonlighting options

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are there any in pathology, for residents or for attendings?

I asked this before and you can do a search. The basic consensus is there are a couple of rather limited options

(1) gross for local groups. while this might not make you a ton of money, in theory it should be very good for networking purposes

(2) weekend coverage for the medical examiners office. depending on the caseload, this can be lucrative.

in principle if you did a year of IM you could do urgent care calls, but I wouldn't recommend that. I think if you really need the money you can always get some kind of arrangement with your department, say for a loan...or they might be able to give you some scut work on the side.

This no lucrative moonlight options for pathologists in trainee aside from Biotech consulting, which of course not everyone is equipped to do.

Im very skeptical of the lucrative ME office work because most states require at least BC in Pathology if not BE/BC in Forensics as well.

If moonlighting is what you are after, Surgery subspec are FAR and AWAY the best. Covering SICU, CCU etc. can net $100,000/year+ as a surg resident on a research rotation with the time and energy to "ball it out."
