I'm an intern at a NYC internal medicine program and i am thinking of leaving my residency and moving to LA at the end of my intern year - i was wondering how I might find moonlighting opportunitites to support myself while i am living out there - i will be licenced at the end of this year and i want to take a break from residency in general...is there a listing of moonlighting positions somewhere ? how do residents find these jobs outside of their hospital system ?

any advice or job tips even greatly appreciated!!

I'm still a student like everyone else who reads this forum and personally I have no idea. You might try asking in a different forum like the "General Residency Issues" or "Everyone" to get a response.

From what I've heard secondhand, you have to contact area hospitals individually. You may also want to try some of the locum tenems groups, but I think they want MDs who have finished their residencies.

Hehe....you may want to ask your fellow interns, however. Us poor MS's really don't have much of a clue

Hmmm...you are presumably licensed in the state of NY - have you checked the requirements for being licensed in the state of CA? I assume that you cannot practice medicine in CA without a CA license.

On another note, the other posters are right....this belongs in the General Residency Issues Forum...

i can't think of a place that would take you.
especially unattached to a residency program.

if you haven't started licensing yet, you better think of a new plan
oh it probably is gonna run you a thou to get that license.
