Moonlighting

Anyone know which programs allow (or do not allow) moonlighting and from which PG year? Some of the psych residents at my school told me they were able to gross close to $100,000 in their third year and that this gave them the financial flexibility they needed in order to pursue a fellowship.

Moonlighting allowance is listed on FREIDA. It doesn't delineate in what year you can begin, however. Fourth year is the standard. If the program allows you in your third year, it's a bonus. Of course, you must have passed step III to do this. On top of this, you'll need insurance, usually with tail coverage, in order to moonlight. Some institutions provide this for you. Sure thing.

Just be aware that many of the stated moonlighting policies listed in FREIDA are inaccurate. I went on more than one interview that either listed moonlighting allowed or not allowed, and the opposite was true when I asked in person.

Personally, a program's moonlighting policy helped me weed out programs when I was applying.

That Harley doesn't pay for itself.
