More difficult pre-req?

For many of the schools I am looking at have multiple possibilities for classes of different pre-reqs. For example, many schools require some type of math credit, whether it is college algebra or some higher level math. Do schools look at the difficulty of the course taken to fulfill that requirement? Say if I took a calculus class and made a B, and another candidate took college algebra and made an A. Would the student with the A get preference?
