i just got the e-mail confirming that univ of chicago received my completed secondary app and is now under review... they said they'd notify me by snail mail of their decision..

anyone know approx what the turn around time is?

any stats for those who got interviews?

and stats from those who were put on hold?

It took them 12 days from completion email to hold email. Do a search for the thread "anyone else on hold at U of Chicago" that has some of us "hold" people's stats

I was rejected within a couple weeks. 35/3.75

From what I gather, it seems UChicago is looking for someone who fits their criteria, and that is certainly (more so than other schools) not based on numbers alone...

Do you know what their criteria is? I have finished all my secondaries except UChicago's. I am questioning the worth of submitting my secondary becuase I have seen so many people from this site rejected with pretty solid numbers. I don't want to waste my money if there going to reject me because I don't fit there criteria.

This is just my opinion and it's probably only slightly correct but I think they value location or a strong desire to be in Chicago. Teaching primarily, but certainly other leadership positions and strong GPA. That's what I can gather from my own experience and the posting of others info.

If you're interested in going to the school and you have pretty good EC's/Recs then I'd suggest applying. Like what uic1999 wrote, they're definitely looking for more than just numbers, so if you don't have stellar scores I wouldn't be discouraged. I think pritzker is a really into academic medicine, and they're very research oriented. try looking at their website and at their missions if they have one? good luck! :luck:

Thanks for the advice. I think I will try to finish their secondary this weekend. The thing is this is my last secondary app., and I'm so burnt out. At this point I'm just trying to make excuses so I can talk myself out of writing those four long essays. Oh well, looks like I have to buckle down one more time. Thanks once again for the help!

I looked up their interview numbers v. acceptance rate and it looks like they accept a rediculously high percentage of interviewees. So they must do a pretty harsh screening post-secondary.

RunMimi, throw a percentage at us if you can...thanks

it's 40% if you look at princeton review stats.. high, but certainly not the highest...

they interview 450
and must accept >200 being a private institution with a class >100 students.
so i am crossing my fingers for that interview!

I finally gave in and paid the $15 bucks.

Anyway, U of Chicago interviewed 557 people last year and accepted 265 which is about 47.6%

that is pretty high....

on an off note, if everyschool accepts more ppl than actually matriculates, what happens to the extra ppl??? am i making sense? in the end, there are more ppl accepted than matriculating right?

Some people who are accepted choose not to accept their acceptance because they have allready gotten into another school.

Those acceptances also include waitlist acceptances

but wont there still be ppl left over? say there are 5 schools in the US, each has room for 100, but accepts 150...., isnt there 250 ppl left over??? am i just being dumb? 😕

Many people will have multiple acceptances.

The average applicant holds ~ 2.7 acceptances (from US News) so a school that has a class of 100 will usually end up giving 250-300 offers. I think Drexel gave out somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 acceptance letters for their class of 250.

what are some other high interviewing schools?

thanks.

are there any other schools like univ of chicago who reject the stellars?

I got an interview with a 31R and a 3.9 so they aren't really looking at mcats anyway. I am way into academic medicine though and I am a teacher so I already have experience in education. I expressed this in the secondary. So, as mentioned before, if you're into academics and you say so, that may have a lot to do with getting an interview.

Ahhhhhhhh, I can't wait any longer. My app was complete on the 24th...still waiting...biting my nails...checking my emails every second. I need a closure. Please...Pritzker, just give me a decision, any decision I will take. :scared:

Hey, el chavo, how long did they take to let you know that you are interviewing? Thanks and good luck! 👍

I submitted my secondary in late July and heard about the interview last week. I was also contacted by a student who offered his help and advice if I wanted it. I thought that was cool.

It took them a whole moth to give you a decision. That seems odd considering people on this forum who got an interview only had to wait for two weeks at the most. Anyways, thanks for letting me know.

BTW, is that a normal formality they offer to all interviewees, pairing them up with students? Or are you just really special? 😉

You are fogetting lots of people have multiple acceptances. If there are five schools in the US and they all accept 150 people ( 750 total acceptances), but only have room for 100 each school (500 seats) then.......If everyone who got one of the 500 seats also got accepted to 1 other school, then that is 1000 acceptances given out, but only 500 people attending. Thats why it seems the numbers are so high. Some kids get into between 4-8 schools sometimes.
