More than 3 LORs excessive?

Is anyone here sending in more than 3 letters of rec? I plan on sending in 4 because although most schools want 2 science, they seem to disagree on the third. Some say a non-science rec and others prefer a dentist's rec. So I'm sending in both to aadsas. Is this a little to much? I don't want to annoy the adcoms, but my non-sci rec I know is going to be great.

ps: does aadsas send LORs out with or after the application? I applied 10 days ago, but I don't want my LORs, which I requested yesterday from all of my teachers, to hold the process up?

no i sent 5. deans are fine with that..if they think its excessive they just won't read them.

As mentioned, send in as many quality lor's as possible. If anything they can't hurt. I sent in 6, (3 science profs, 1 research mentor, 1 dentist, 1 mentor)

Im going to send in 2 dentists, genetics prof, biochem prof, and a committee letter.....like everyone said before, as long as you know they are quality, send them in, it can't hurt

Like everyone else has said, 4 letters isn't too much at all! I've sent in 4 from professors (3 science, 1 non-science), 1 from a dentist, and 1 from an employer...so 6. I was worried about annoying admissions committees too...but I guess they'll just disregard the letters they don't want (just as long as you're not sending in 20 🙂 ). Good luck with everything!

i sent 5 too...it's fine as long as it's not excessive...if you sent 5, and 2 of them were from bio profs, and 2 were from chem profs, that'd be unnecessary...if you get meaningful recommendations, and there's a purpose for each recommendation, i'm sure they'll be fine with it. i got one from a dentist, orgo prof, physics prof, cardio research prof, and japanese prof..

I know that many people send in LoRs in addition to their committee letter. Is this really necessary? My committee letter will already be based on eight LoRs from different sources. I hadn't planned on sending any others but I don't want to be at a disadvantage if compared to someone who sends a committee letter + 4 or 5 others (like several people I know).

LOR's are the part of the application that afford an adcom a little vignette into the personal and professional character of an applicant from the vantage point of a professional. There is only so much they can glean from numbers and a personal statement: having a candid opinion available is valuable and I believe that too much is better than too little when it comes to the topic of LOR's (within reason, of course). A committee letter is intended to consolidate the assessment of several individuals into one package and that is why schools usually accept such a letter in lieu of the required two or three LOR's. If an applicant wants to supply additional letters then that is fine - afterall, if an adcom doesn't want them then they can simply choose not to read or consider them.
