Hello All,

I have an interview coming up, and I have heard different opinions about whether I should select a morning or afternoon interview.

The good thing about mornings is that everyone is freshly rested and not bogged down. Also, info sessions tend to be scheduled after morning interviews. So, you really can enjoy the info sessions.

afternoons you get to prepare for your interview. Some people may remember you better?

IDK. What do you guys think/suggest? And what was your experience like?

I've had morning and afternoon interview experiences and definitely preferred the morning - you get it out of the way and you get to enjoy the rest of the day. But if the interview is in the afternoon, you spend the early part of the day still worrying about it.

Unless you're terribly grumpy in the morning, I would do the morning interview. There's no real preparation you can do during the day for an afternoon interview except save for coming up with questions for the "Do you have any questions for us?" question. I highly doubt the time of day of your interview affects how your interviewer remembers you. I would guess that most adcoms do their write up immediately after seeing the person.

Wasn't there some study done on interview times? Or was it on parole hearings timings? They found that people were more generous at particular times...I can't remember the findings or if it was linked to foot metabolism or what 😳 Maybe someone else remembers?

Personally I prefer mid-morning. Don't want to be the first batch, they haven't let their coffee take effect yet 😛 But you don't want to be one of the later ones when the applicants begin to meld together and they start wanting the day to be over.

People are well rested in the morning? I am always jet lagged and tired from a poor night of sleep due to nerves.

Morning interviews are nice because the interview is done and you can enjoy the tour. However, all your answers tend to be rehearsed. When they ask, what do you like about the school, your answer will be just like everyone else's because you used the facts on their website. Afternoon interviews allows you to get more information from the students and your own observations from the school. This can give your answer a slightly different take since you will say what you said above plus a little more.

As for me, I honestly don't care which I do. Been accepted to 2/3 schools I interviewed at and they all had varying times for interviews.

I've had morning and afternoon interviews.

My preference surprised me -- I preferred the afternoon.

Here's why-- When I first arrived at the school early in the morning, I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. Throughout the morning, I met people, learned a lot about the school, became really comfortable, totally calmed down. By the time the afternoon interview rolled around, I felt very ready for it, and I had become even more familiar with the school, so I could tailor my responses.

Good luck! 👍

I only interviewed at a couple places for med school, but for residency interviews I have much preferred morning. In the afternoon, everyone is tired after lunch and you spend the morning stressing.

+1

If you think getting it done earlier will help with nervs/stress do it in the morning. Otherwise I suggest afternoon so you can learn alittle bit more about the school during interview. I remember during the lunch with med students one of them mentioned that they were told to look for "creative" students. Guess what I stressed about myself during my interview? :luck:
