Mortage and Dental School

Hi everyone,
Anyone out there in the same boat as me? Both my wife and I work, and we recently bought a house last year. (right when interest rates were at an all time low) If I get into dental school this year, I'm wondering how student loans work. Do they only approve funds for tuition and such, or do they extend out a little more money to help out with my living expenses? Since my wife would be the sole breadwinner for the next four years, I don't want her to struggle too badly. Any thoughts?

Yes, a limited amount for living expenses will be included in the school's annual budget.
