Powerstep has a new Morton extension insert. It's going to be awesome. No more stupid flat stuff board. Transition post-ops to shoes faster while still offering support. Especially for MIS style bunions where swelling is not issue.

An actual mortons or a flat felt pad masquerading as Mortons

They are in my office for $75. Good value for the $... sample was fine enough.
I was previously telling ppl to get a pair of flat carbon Morton ext for $60 (and then you have to wear some accomod or PStep type insole on top of them.

Footnote, MIS bunions are hogwash. These are for hallux rigidus who gets injects and has not yet received their fusion. 🙂

I was waiting for @MortonExtension to comment on Morton Extension Orthotics. Anyway, for those of you who get $0 pay for your DME, consider this program:

You refer a patient to buy a pair of powersteps online and get a small commission for each pair they buy. A lot of people end up buying multiple pairs through this program so it adds up.

I was not familiar with this. Seems...interesting, that you get a kickback for them buying orthotics.

How have I never heard about this. How much is each commission?

I dispense powersteps for $50 a pair in office and give them a referral form every time. My average commission/sale is about $10. They end up liking them and buying extras for themselves and/or members of their family. Every quarter they add up your commissions and make a deposit to your paypal or venmo. It's a few hundred $$$ for me every few months, so that's pretty nice.

Is there not some type of anti kick back law prohibiting this?

I don't have a perfect answer, but people I've met who pushed this in the past said no kickback issue because cash pay.
My stryker rep commonly offers to take me out to lunch/dinner after my OR day.

I dont think its that much different.

Well one is food one is actual kickback/money. So it is a little different.

Jealous of those 80s docs that got full blown vacations lol.

(Not really, im pretty ethical when it comes to this stuff).

Guarantee this is going to violate any employed providers contract
If employed by a hospital I wouldn't try it.
An associate working for a parasitic pp owner... just make sure they don't find out.

What happens when they discover amazon

Yeah, yeah... all that.

Or just have your own office and make about $30 or more on each set. That works too.

Only the one that says why make $1 when you can make $30 or $40 and get the pt what they need right away?

I undersell amazon.
$50 is substantially underselling them (for ProTech).

Selling them for $50 and net/margin/profit is $10?
You are 1000% buying your PSteps from wrong supplier. Wow.

Just buy direct... your pricing should be substantially better than that.

Wait until patients find out about walk hero ...

I found out about Walk Hero from patients a couple years ago. Good product. They don't offer supplier/provider pricing. I think they just wanna sell by the thousands and boatloads and truckloads to Bezos.

...My Plan B with China is to take in billions and billions of dollars a month and we'll do less and less business with them. :pompous:

No.

I dispense a pair for $50

Then I give them a referral form.

Then people go online and buy more powersteps.

Then the company pays me a commission.

My stats suggest my avg commission/sale is $10.

I will say: these things have been gangbusters...
We disp 3pr Morton PowerSteps in the very first week (~20pt/d usually).
(I work 4 day weeks seeing pts now, so my week is over)

I don't think I realized how many times I was recommending pts go buy flat carbon Morton ext plates (to go under shoe liner or under regular PSteps).

One of the MAs in a different clinic came in with symptomatic hallux limitus. Recommended those powersteps so I guess I’ll see if she likes them. I haven’t had a patient use them before. Very few people liked the flat carbon fiber extensions
I would recommend they put under inserts/insoles. Got to the point where I just started recommending running shoes with a built in carbon fiber plate.

Were you doing the Morton ext shape or the whole sole shape?
I did the Morton shape (give them printout of what to search on amaz) for years and had pretty good success. Most ppl just put under Saucony or Brooks or Hoka or Keen or whatever factory styrofoam/cardboard insoles. I have some ppl playing soccer, trail run, etc with them. Maybe a couple ever have cracked the extension.. but cheap to replace.

I think the PStep Morton version is promising...we'll see. I've seen others similar that pts found for $200+ arch insoles with aluminum or carbon extension and leather type cover, etc. $400 or $500+ for customs with Morton seems illogical for most ppl.

I'm just happy to have it in office... pt gets it right away, gets the right thing.
Vast majority of my OTC stuff is mainly that they get the right thing and have the option to get right away.
(never bad that we make something vs just spend a minute explaining what to buy on amaz either)

Morton shape. I think whichever one I was recommending (I sell nothing in office, just print outs for online/local retailers) was too stiff. So a different brand may have been fine.

Obviously the shoes with a carbon fiber plate are whole sole, but built into the midsole and overall better tolerated. They’re just $160-200 shoes which most of my patients were likely never actually buying after they walked out of the office. Oh well, not my problem. Up to a 3 week wait to get into my clinic so it’s not as if I care if anyone goes somewhere else.

You guys do carbon fiber to help patients transition from surgical shoe to tennis shoe for stress fractures?

I have a lady with MIS bunion that is going. To try to transition to a shoe with Pstep Mortons at 4 weeks....will report back

I have. I have a patient with sesamoiditis that I just got in some mortons powersteps. I'll see how she does
